PoobahGorg
I had been using Vortex back when it first released for a few months. I took a break from Fallout 4 in favor of Fallout 76. Mods for 76 are easier to self-install, so even though I can now manage them with Vortex, I don't bother to. Through a mishap on my PC, I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam on my C: drive. To make modding less of a hassle, I decided Steam shouldn't fall under Program Files this time around. I gave Steam a folder on the C: drive, but I also have another folder for Steam on D: for my smaller games. As I now had a bunch of space on my C: drive, I installed my Bethesda RPGs there rather than on my D: drive (where they'd been). For reasons I can't begin to explain (or remember) I had set my system up with the My Documents (et al, including My Games) on my D: drive. When I fired up Vortex recently, at some point it warned me that Oldrim needed to be on the same drive the mods are staged on. It didn't like the game being on C: while My Games was on D:. Which Bethesda games have this limitation? I will presume that Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas do . What about Skyrim SE and Fallout 4?Yes, I can move some of them to D:. Thing is, that's for my smaller games. These games and their installs have a way of getting HUGE over time. Yes, I could probably just move my user account folders to C:, but I don't even want to think about what kinds of issues that might bring to other things on my PC that I haven't even considered yet. TLDR version: I don't mind moving Oldrim and Fallout 3/NV to D: where My Games is located. Do I have to move Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 there as well? rmm200
Any game that you use hard link deployment for has this requirement. In most cases it means the mod staging directory has to be on the same drive as the game. There are a few games that store mods in Documents. In those cases, the mod staging directory has to be on the same drive as Documents. The good thing about Hard Link deployment - there is always only one copy of the mod, and it is faster than symlinks. PoobahGorg
Can I move the staging location for mods to C: then? I'm thinking they're simply on D: because that's where I used to install my Bethesda games to.

You can move the staging directory whenever you like, as long as it winds up on the game drive.Hard Links are a Windows thing; not a Vortex thing.
