DestinyChopsticks
There are innumerable retextures for robes -- some better than others. Some people have even managed to do amazing new textures like Dethmold's Robes. But what I haven't seen are armoured robes. They don't have to be ostentatious, or fantastic looking (in fact, I would dislike such mods). Rather, I'm looking for something like these: http://img7.imagebanana.com/img/49eghnbq/ehereinenull.jpgVanhemar's armour from the Witcher 2 (see also: Adelbert's armour http://th01.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/219/9/2/cynthia__witcher_2_by_jakecarver-d5a4c7m.jpgCynthia's doublet from the Witcher 2 http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/EPIC_Gallery/Gallery1/44177_C1_sorcerer.jpgNote that he seems to have some kind of lamellar or scale armour over his chest, with a cloth section over his waist. http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/images/2310-3-1300525000.jpgThe female mage warden armour from DA2 (see reverse here) http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1372/fugitivesmantle.jpgThe Fugitive's Mantle from DA2 http://i55.tinypic.com/dxct8w.jpgAn awesome mage outfit from DA2. I mean, really, why is it that mages can't wear chainmail, and still have an arcane flare? I have the Triss Merigold Armour, but technically this should only be an outfit and lore-wise it's hard to imagine it as light armour. (Nonetheless, I really like that mod, so don't think that I'm hating on Fraper.) Also, I don't want all robes changed into armour. I want additional items in the game.
AirostheTiger
There are a few armored robe mods already out there, depending on exactly what you want. Inquisitor Set by Newermind43This adds a standalone set of armor which does have an armor rating, although it doesn't really have much of an "armored" appearance. Robed Steel Plate Armor by MadCat221Exactly what it says on the tin. It's a hybrid of steel plate armor and mage robes. Skyrim Knights by hideouscircusBased on the above Robed Steel Plate Armor, this adds a bit of variety to the robed part as well as some additional armor materials, (orichalcum, ebony and dragon plate). Black Mage Armor by RekoThis adds three armored robes; a steel plate version similar to the above Robed Steel Plate Armor, an ebony heavy armor and an ebony light armor. Tribunal robes and masks by ZairaamOne of my personal favorites, as they are hands down sexy. The masks being beast race friendly is a real nice touch. The heavy armor robes requires Ebony Smithing, the light armor requires Glass. Daedric Mage Armor by Natterforme by NatterformeAnother pretty straightforward mod, does exactly what it says. Dragonhide Robes by hothtrooper44The best of the best, (at least as far as armor rating/crafting perks are concerned). Adds robes that are equal to dragon plate and dragon scale. Note this armor is also available in the Immersive Armors mod. Spellbinder Armor by hothtrooper44Another heavy armor only set that is also available in the Immersive Armors mod. I hope some of those are of use to you.
AbraaoOblivion
This one is the better armored robe http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10864 http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/images/thumbnails/10864-1-1329954026.jpg
Dweedle
Immersive armors has afew such as Spellbinder and Dragonbone Robes. But I concur I would LOVE more armored robes especially Heavy ones to fit a spell blade style.
TimeNoise
well, is there any mod that allow you to wear a robe and an armor at the same time?
DestinyChopsticks
Wow. That spelldrinker armour is pretty sexy. I love the Witcher-esque feel to it with the Nordling runes along the fringes and the sigils of the Northern kingdoms over the breast. If those were to have the emblems of the Skyrim holds it would perfect. I'm going to take a look at the rest of the immersive armours, but out of all the ones that were quoted I still feel we're lacking on the specific kind of look that is suitable to Skyrim. Maybe it's just me.
DestinyChopsticks
Okay, the Spellbinder Armour and Skyrim Knights are fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. But I still am running into the problem that, if I want a character who wears actual robes (as in, the standard ones that aren't all that bad if you have a character suitable to them), the only armoured gloves/boots you can wear that look decent with the set are the initial tier ones (such as leather). I dislike the way other armour (like elven, for example) looks when combined with robes, and of all the sets I've looked into I can't find anything that would go well with those. I had hoped that there would be sets based around this, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Kinshou14
I've actually been considering talking to the guy who makes Immersive Armours about some ideas I had about directly combining various heavy armor sets from the game with the college mage robes. He's great at taking existing assets and combining them in unique and lore friendly ways, and I really want to do the same. I've messing with concept art to give to him, but mostly it's using the vanilla robes as a base and then adding certain things on, depending on which armor used (Plate Steel, Iron, Ebony, etc). I use two texture mods that make the armor and robes look fantastic (aMidianBorn Book of Silence and Opulent Outfits - Mages Robes of Winterhold ) and I've really never been a fan of playing a straight caster because they're too squishy, but a straight fighter or rogue tends to bore me. That's why I tend to play a mix of martial and melee - not always a spell sword - for instance in my latest play through my character focuses on speechcraft and Illusion spells, acting as a CC and buffer, with daggers and heavy armor on the side - but for the most part mixing robes and armor. Basically, I just have an unrealistic and grandios idea and I want other people to do it for me XD
