Coastalaxe
So, I've read at least one other request which is pretty much exactly like mine, but it had no responses and was posted about one year ago. Now I am no modder, and while I know a bit about programming I don't know exactly what is required for this proposition to work.I propose that a capable modder create a mod that changes the first-person view based on the type of helmet/head gear you have equipped. The way it would work is by making your first person view conform to the boundries imposed by the specific helmet/head gear. So any helmet (such as a leather helmet) that has part of it placed between your eyes would create a small section in the middle of the screen (in first person only) that you couldn't see past. Now obviously this mod is about immersion, so actually having some kind of texture/3D effect added to the silhouette would be best. The point here is that the shape of the helmet, the way it bends around the eyes and face should be taken into account to create true immersion. The other post that matched this idea mentioned a mod for Fallout: New Veges called "Project Nevada". While I agree that project nevada is a great reference point for this mod, I personally didn't like that the visor vision didn't account for two separate holes for vision, and rather simply limited the fp vision around the edges, while ignoring the middle. It's somewhat difficult to clearly express this mod in words, so if anything isn't clear/if this sounds interesting to you and you are either a modder or someone who might also like to see this mod created, let me know and I'll clarify anything I can. Anach
I came here to post the same thing, but found this thread. As well as Fallout, there was an Oblivion Mod named Helmet FOV http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/8991 I too would like something like this for Skyrim. Tehandyman
things like leather and steel helmet make sense because if you were to really have that helmet on, you wouldn't be able to see the small section between your eyes. So it makes sense to not be able to see the nose-guard. But helmets like Guard helmet or Forsworn Headdress, or any other helmet that covers the face would be understandable to make a FOV kind of mod. Coastalaxe
@ Tehandyman If you put your finger, or any piece that is as thin and fat as a finger right on your nose, you'll still see it in your FOV. Considering leather helmets have a much larger piece than your finger, and it sits further from your face, I think you would still see it.
Marked0n3
I agree with Coastalaxe, you will still see it, albeit even if it is blurry to the point that you can't make out what it is. I think it would be very hard to replicate that on a screen though :/ It would be good if it worked with the eye patches that some mods add to the game too. I loved it the first time on Metal Gear Solid 3 when I noticed that when I did first person view after Snake lost his eye that some of the screen was blurry and blacked out. They did it really well..maybe someone could use this as a reference?
Coastalaxe
@FOX_HOUND Replicating the exact effect would be difficult, I agree. However, having a bit of the middle be "blacked out"/covered wouldn't be immersion breaking IMO. My idea for this mod is to essentially give me a reason to take off my helmet when I'm not in combat. For that to really make sense, having most helmets on should impair my vision in a somewhat significant way.
KaptenN
I love this idea! It would however be very annoying to go into the inventory to take off and put on you helmet everytime you enter or leave combat. I suggest a hotkey for headwear removal. It would be cool if removing your headwear by the use of a hotkey was accompanied with an animation. Perhaps your helmet could also be fastened on your belt or something rather than completely removed? Many mods have both hooded and hoodless versions of robes. What if you could instead raise and lower your hood the same way? EDIT: I've made a separate thread for my suggestion, as recommended by Coastalaxe. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1032121-helmet-removalhood-lowering-animation/ Edited July 8, 2013 by KaptenN
Coastalaxe
@KaptenN There are some mods that achieve this via scripts. One example that jumps to mind is the vanguard armor in the Immersive Armors mod. There is of course also the "auto remove helmet" mod that equips specific head gear automatically when a weapon is drawn, and unequips the helmet when the weapon is sheathed. For what you're requesting however, I would recommend starting a separate mod request. Or suggesting your animation idea to the mod author of the auto remove helmet mod. (Not sure if it's called exactly that, but you can find it super easily with those key words on google)
Maleel
Seems like a pretty cool idea. I would definitely download that (I love me mah immersion.)
Valridagan
Okay, I was thinking, if first-person mode makes your body invisible and such, then maybe there would be a way to make your helmet visible and place the camera/POV at about eye-level inside it. I have looked VERY hard in the Creation Kit, and I have been unable to find out how to do this. If anyone knows, please tell me.
