Mass Freezes And Crashes

<p>For the sake of HTML obliterating my post I will just make a new post below my original. I did not include a boss log as the window shows my order list. The last ESP is the only one unrecognized, which is a mod that makes your spells give off light in first, and third person. I am unsure of how to delete ESPs I don't plan on activating, as the data folder does not specifically name them, so I am not sure which one I am deleting since there are all named the same. According to BOSS, everything is fine besides the duplicate Lanterns of Skyrim esps, which I have only enabled one. </p> Edited by ArchAngelAlien

I would put RLO after CoT, just in case this mod adds/changes lightsources or something.

You run a large amount of mods changing lightsources (candles, torches, lanterns and the rest) and a crazy amount of texture mods. You need some beast machine for this (I didnt read through the 9 pages of this thread).

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I run a 2500k @ 4.5 ghz and soon 2x XFX 7970s in crossfire. 1 27 inch monitor @ 1920x1080. I am using a GTX 580 now, but I sprung for the crossfire so I can do 3 monitors eventually.

I've custom built alot of pcs in my day. Even flashed a new bios to motherboards and video cards, nothing compares to trying to get Skyrim to work correctly with mods. lol!

It seems like the only file that is overwriting with Climates of Tamriel is /textures/landscape/grass/tundragrassobj01.dds from Skyrim Flora Overhaul.

The only files overwritten from RLO is 2 mesh effect textures for /fxdripssplash01.nif, and rapidrocks01. I figured I would let water have priorty over those files as they seem water related.

RLO itself is only overwritting 4 meshes/archetecture/solitude.nifs from Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

God I love MO. So-much-easier.

This is my first stage of progession and I wanted to share this with you to see if it raised any red flags. I was told that using texture mods is different from using scripted mods, and can only cause performance issues by missing textures, corrupted textures or filling your VRAM up too quickly and causing your game to crash due to running out of Video memory.

Pretty much.

This is my current textures list without any models redone. No CBBE - Better Males - Face/Hair mods as seen.

I sorted this with BOSS, and cleaned what plug-ins had issues. Also note I am using Birds of Skyrim, something that does use scripts I believe, but not sure how heavily. I've seen it used in large load orders successfully.

I had 'Birds...' in my first game, as well as CoT and SkyTest. When I started to experience consistent CTDs outdoors, I removed SkyTest and stabilized my game, then removed CoT and 'Birds..' and started a new game after I experienced some infrequent random outdoor CTDs. SkyTest seems to have been the major culprit in causing game instability, so I am not sure if 'Birds..' or CoT will cause issues. Just be warned that CoT is not one of those mods you can safely remove mid-game. It's scripts will be baked into your save game and spam your papyrus logs.

Main menu textures and music file replacers won't impact the stability of your game, so they should be fine.

Thanks for the response Ripple. I am just trucking away, doing section by section. Atm I am now doing my model textures. Also trying the low poly patch with Apachii hairs to see if I can perhaps avoid some CTD's. But I don't change races at all anyways while playing, so it's fine.

After I have finished this section of player/npcs models to my liking I will report my findings. I've seen SkyTest used successfully as well in the past, and it saddens me that it's responsible for CTD's. I will leave Birds in for now, and leave out perching sky birds as I think that is just too many scripts for something I just will not take advantage of when I already have a few heavily scripted mods planned anyways. (SkyRE - Frostfall - Wet & cold - Realistic Needs % Ds )

I have a question about MO. I can remove items from my downloaded list, and 'hide' them without deleting them from the list. If I need to reinstall the mod later, how to I later return the downloaded mods to the list so I can manipulate their files at will and reinstall if needed?

Ohh my god Ripple. I just realized something. I was running alot of mods that -should- of worked together. With a TON of texture mods. This video card only has 1.5 MB of Vram, and I never checked to see if it was the culprit. My game was crashing when trying to walk outside from inside, or vice versa. I wonder if the culprit all this time has been my Vram and overloading it.

I will seriously kick myself if this is the reasoning behind it.

1) Yeah....don't use the 'remove from view' feature, it's not fully functional yet because there is no easy way to 'unremove' hidden archives at the moment.

Current workaround offered by Tannin.

For a single file you can open <some mod archive>.<extension>.meta, find the line "removed = true" and
change it to "removed = false".

VRAM....yes, that could be the reason why you CTDed so much. I recently bought a HD 7850 2GB, and it's barely cutting it with the hi-rex texture packs (or maybe it's AMD's crappy catalyst drivers, which has actually given me BSOD's....).

I think you'll find this session goes much more smoothly.

Personally i use a test save as i'm adding mods to my game and add 2-3 at a time and then test them all before moving on.

I've had my hdd wipe and my install directory delete itself when i removed the creation kit, so that was 3 times i installed all the same mods. The first time I did it a couple at a time, things worked pretty damn good. A few problems due to not knowing everything about the mods i added but was able to figure things out. Second time after my install wiped, did a majority of my mods all at once. The same ones in the same order..my game crashed constantly and just acted plain weird.

So 'fortunately' my hdd crashed and i had to start again. 3rd time I was nice and careful, trimmed the fat, and most of the problems i had were extremely minor and mostly related to vanilla game bugs. Finished my game a week ago quite satisfied with it, and also now know exactly what i want for this second game. Which i intend to take my time with.

Light at the end of tunnel should be coming soon it sounds like. Just stay reasonable lol.

When standing outside with just the mods I have installed now, I cap out at 1530. I should already be CTDing now. Now add on the rest of my previous load order? No wonder I was CTDing all the time.

I am not going to get carried away, and blame all my past issues on Vram, as there was more than likely alot of compatibilities that were conflicting. But I bet my Vram was behind alot of issues. If I am capping out now, without half of my previous mods, you better believe it's no wonder I was CTDing constantly.

I ordered 2 7970s with 3gb Vram, using 2 cards doesn't double the Vram sadly. So I will have 3gbs to work with. These mods like Wet & Cold, footprints, SkyTest all add onto your Vram. Some of them, substantially. Why didn't I think of this before.

If I tried to stretch Skyrim across 3 screens with a massive screen resolution, and have it heavily modded, I would need 6gb cards I assume, and that isn't going to happen. I wonder why it eats so much Vram. I can play all the top games without it capping. This is the first I have ever experienced this.

Also Ripple, I might have already hidden a bunch of mods and not deleted them from disk already. Do I need to restart, and not delete them? Or move forward?
