I was doing some trial and error and found out that it's the quickload function that's triggering the save error. Just checked HudCaps bug reports and that's the exact problem that several people have reported. Thanks to both of you! I owe you both a drink sometime! I know you're not playing on survival mode, but it still might help. Don't see how it could hurt. So strange to hear that HudCaps seems to be the cause of this, though.
