Console Command Help

Okay, this topic might be a bit too common but I believe mine is a bit unique, I suppose.

Let's see, I'm using Windows Vista and like usual Vista problem, I can't access console command by pressing ` even when I enable it through Oblivion.ini file. So I download "Ring of Console" mod ... or whatever the name is to access the mod.

Okay, so it worked but I have to unequip then equip it again to enter the console and I can't exit the console by pressing `

I have to press ESC key then 'Return' to return to the game normally. Everything works well, aye?

Nah, what I wish to know is .. is there any other way to access the console command? I'm a screenshooter you see, so this method of accessing the console is troublesome and ...well, I guess other screenshooter will understand me.

I've heard that if I bought an external keyboard then I can access console command normally, it doesn't work for me though.

I have another laptop with XP OS, did that help anything? No no, I can't really play on the other laptop ... it's spec is below average.

Is there any alternate method? Uh, such as Virtual XP perhaps?

Thank you in advance!

You might try disabling the IR port. That sometimes works on media center PCs. It has something to do with resources I think. Since I don't use Vista, a media center PC or a laptop I have no way to test this.

Another possible solution is to remap the ~ key to another key. You will need to know what the key code mapping is for the ~ key and a program that allows you to remap keys for this. Maybe it could be assigned to one of the unused F keys or the scroll lock key.

I can't find a program that lets you remap the tilde key but upon further investigation, the IR port DOES limits your tilde key on some games. I did uninstalled it and it worked!

Uhm, quote from the dude who gives out great details about how to disable it.

I found this searching over internet to find the solution for this problem. It seems most of the laptop with Windows Vista installed have same problem of unable to bring up the console command by pressing tilde(~) key because most of them comes installed with Microsoft eHome IR.

It is simple to fix actually. It's either delete this, or modify littlebit to go around this function.

Go to 'Device Mananger' -> 'Keyboard' -> 'Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard'

Right click it, and now you can either choose to 'uninstall' to simply make the tilde key works again in fallout 3, oblivion and other games that does not let you use ~ as console. However, If you feel discomforted uninstalling the driver, then there is other solution.

Right click it and instead of clicking 'uninstall', choose 'update driver software'

when new window pops up, choose 'browse my computer for driver software'

now when new stuff comes up, choose 'let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

several stuff comes up as a list. click on 'HID-compliant device' and click 'next' (or simply double click it)

now it is done!! try fallout 3 and see for yourself.

I really appriciate the tech input for the console problem  I just purchased for christmas an Alienware M17 extreme core2 quad crossfire hd graphics 4 gig ddr3 Vista ultimate 64bit and the console problem was the only thing stopping me from playing Oblivion on it . P.S. the downloaded content does work. I download to my xps desktop and the tranfer to my laptop via either my 320 gig ext. hd or 32gb thumbdrive. Excellent!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Thankyou very much
