Aredel
Ulfric challenged High King Torygg because he saw him as unfit to rule. According to Ulfric, this is a Nord custom, honor demanded Torygg to accept the challenge.Meaning that Torygg's death was not murder, but death by trial, making Ulfric the rightful new high king.So the rebellion was born, but what now, if you pick the side of the stormcloaks? And you win the throne for little old Ulfric here? What then? If not for the fact that you are Dragonborn, or perhaps even just power hungry yourself, there's plenty of reason's for the player to become high king himself. For example, my character joins the stormcloacks to see Skyrim freed from the Thalmor, only to find that Ulfric's past has clouded his judgment severely. He has become power hungry, racist and doesn't see that Skyrim will be weaker because of his rule. Better then that (and you can find in game proof of this) his rebellion seems to be planned out and wanted by the Thalmor, who have manipulated him during his imprisonment at the time of the Great War, so they could weaken Skyrim. With all and even more of these things in mind, I don't get why you as 'the' Dragonborn of your age, don't get the option to publicly challenge Ulfric, and accuse him of being unfit for the Throne, having a clouded judgment, or being too weak.Of course this should also provoke some reaction from his followers, but who cares, let them challenge you in return! As Dragonborn you ought to be capable of uniting the people into a new era, a new empire even perhaps? You've been given the power of a Dragon's voice and control over thing syou speak, shouldn't that make you able to gather a following, like Dragons who followed Alduin's power? It's just an idea of course, although to me this should have been standard game content, but I won't start on Bethesda this, Bethesda that, because I'd be typing pages of complaints then, while we should be thankful that they made us a canvas to paint on. (Even tough that canvas is of poor quality.)Perhaps someone could even provide an opposite quest where you get to choose the side of the Thalmor, and have them take over under your rule? I wonder how you guys think about thisMaybe some people are interested in loooking into this as a mod? Thanks for reading, ;) Edited February 8, 2013 by Aredel

Njorunn
Sounds like fun - and I agree that this is such a detail that seems overlooked or scrapped by Beth. On the other hand - how far do you want it to go? You want a duel with Ulfric - make him very strong and allow him to use several shouts and high damage. Otherwise it's a piece of cake, right? Let's say you beat Ulfric - what now? What changes would you like to see in the game-world after that? Guards hailing you as the new high king? Or do you want to make it even more advanced - say having to go from hold to hold, defeating each Jarl to submit them to you? The possibilities could be endless - but the question is how much of this is moddable without breaking lots of stuff?

Aredel
A duel with Ulfric would be a good idea Njorunn, but indeed there should be a way to make him more powerfull indeed. As for as a Follow up, you should go and see all the Jarls if you ask me, at the very least, perhaps try to convince them from your cause, if nessecary by force, or find replacements for them =) "Unite Skyrim" Would be the idea, perhaps even prepare it to face the Thalmor or anything else that might endanger the Land and/or it's people. One of the things I was thinking is That it would be nice to see all the forts that were occupied by the diffrent factions, could now be taken by your own army of the High King, to keep the peace.Perhaps building new defencess, or commision to have your own palace build, if you'd like the idea of becoming the new Tiber Septim. Also the idea of commoners/nobles coming to your palace with problems could be fun?Or if you support the Thalmor, a Quest to effectivly root out and opress the rebels, and somewhat the same as the former option, but bringing the Thalmor into Skyrim instead of recruiting your own army. =) (And this is less important, but it would be fun if you got to choose or outfit you own soldiers with certain gear somehow, for example by speaking to a quater master, and tell him things like: "foot soldiers are to wear this" or "I want my luitenants to wear ... armor.") But that's an entirely diffrent story =) Edited February 8, 2013 by Aredel
diogosn
At first, sorry by my bad english. English is not my native language.Your idea is absolutely awesome, and i have an idea to reinforce it. It could start afterthe quest when you retrieve the Jagged Crown and after the events of the civil war.If you sided with the empire, Ulfric scapes from the jail with the aid of some dark mage who enchants the Jagged Crown, giving super powers to him.If you sided with Ulfric and the Stormcloaks, after the civil warsome people come to you asking for help against Ulfric's tyranny and unlimited power hunger after he received the super powers of the enchanted Jagged Crown from the dark mage. After the end, the player could keep the enchanted Jagged Crown. What do you think about it?
frakle
Well, after Dragonborn, Bethesda has confirmed there will be two more DLCs. One is Redguard (or something to do with Redguards) and the other one is about High Kings and the Thalmor. Perhaps you will get your wish (I hope you do, I would love something like this.) Showatt
Ulfric was quite strong to begin with. He has access to shout - so beth or modder can give him whatever shout they see fit and it would make sense - and he's bested the old high king in a duel. In turns of power I think he should have more toughness and more health than Mirrak, can use shouts, but without the magical lightning spams. LordDraconis
Here's a arguably better idea for you. How about we as a gaming community get together and send Bethesda a petition requesting yet another DLC pack? I believe that the storyline begun with the Skyrim Civil War does not end properly and that Bethesda needs to finish it off with what actually SHOULD be the last DLC pack. Dragonborn should NOT be the last DLC in my opinion. I believe that yet another is needed to finish off the Civil War storyline....Whether Imperial or Stormcloak, I think we can all agree that the war is NOT over and that there is a good bit more to tell. Here is my two cents for what could be.....Stormcloak, the player is given a Jarlship by Ulfric after forcing the Empire to concede Skyrim's independence and finishes off the DLC by royally kicking the Thalmor's ass out of both Skyrim AND the Empire. If Imperial, The player is given The jarlship of Windhelm with Elisif becoming High Queen of Skyrim, plus marshalling all of Skyrim once again against the Thalmor, with assistance from a resurgent Blades who it turns out come out of the woodwork to give the elves the buttkicking they deserve. *Sorry for any elf lovers but I find the Thalmors attitude highly repulsive and to be BEGGING to have a Nord boot shoved up their ass* *and yes I am aware that as of April of last year bethesda said they're moving on..I believe we need to give them reason to revisit Skyrim.....
