Goatamon
I know this has been asked about before, but since none of the solutions given in the other threads seem to work for me, I'll ask again: what the hell? Skyrim always played fine for me, but now, after a couple months of not playing, whenever I start up the game, it automatically sets my graphical settings to something like 800x600, and windowed mode. Also, when I actually do get into the game, none of my saves are present, despite all of the save files being in my documents>mygames folder. I've tried editing the ini files, all of them. I've set them to read only, and I've tried with read only off. I've reinstalled skyrim, uninstalled it completely and then installed it like 4 times; nothing seems to work. I have the newest drivers. If I try to change the settings in the options menu in the launcher, the second I click "ok" it immediately reverts back to 800x600 or whatever it is, and windowed mode. I've even tried a fullscreen fix thing that someone had posted: it did nothing. Also, if I try to verify the cache, it always says either one or two things could not be verified, and will now be acquired again, but it never starts downloading anything. Maybe it has something to do with that? As a sidenote: I did at one point relocate the skyrim preferences and the savegames to a different partition from where they originally were, but I have since put them back in their rightful place, and in any case, I'd think that uninstalling and reinstalling the whole goddamn game would fix it, even if the files were in the "wrong" place. I actually went ahead and deleted every single skyrim related file on my entire goddamn computer, just to have a fresh start. Reinstalled: BOOM, same problem. Whatever the case, I'm getting mightily fed up with this. If anyone has any possible solutions, give me a shout. I'd like to add that the skyrim I'm running is a totally legit copy, pre ordered it and all. I have the actual dvd in my computer as we speak. Update: It seems that when I reinstall the game and try to run it, it automatically creates a folder "%USER_MYDOCS%" in the steam folder. Thats the steam folder mind you, not the actual steamapps/common/skyrim folder. Another thing that I probably should have done in the first place: I checked my other steam games. They are running in windowed mode as well. Maybe this is a job for steam-supportman. Edited February 9, 2013 by Goatamon
