well i was interested until i saw that it turn based. i CANNOT stand turn based combat. its so old fashioned and completely ruins the pace and the impressiveness of the game for me.

then again i can only assume, that since the guy said about 100 times in the first few minutes "blah blah Wasteland 1" (which i did not play) and the fact that the game looks like it was made at the same time as Wasteland 1 (graphically); that its an homage to those who have played and were fans of Wasteland 1, and as such, my opinion and dislike of the demo i just watched, really has no place, since not only did i not play Wasteland 1 but also was not even into PC gaming (or really any gaming) at the time that this or others like it (FallOut), were popular games.

Wasteland 1 was released in 1988, so I'm not sure which video you watched that, since the two games look nothing a like graphically.

I think that turn based RPGs were a byproduct of an age where you just couldn't simulate the complex actions that RPG systems required in real time. Thus, turn based mechanics in this day and age sounds pretty bad to me (like Cyberpunk from CDProject).

That said, I liked what I saw from the Wasteland 2 video. Looks like it has a well done and interesting environment. While I probably won't enjoy the combat I could see myself enjoying everything else the game has to offer :D

i did not mean to say the game looked like wasteland 1 (idk what it looked like), my point was the game looks ugly, and nothing like a current game should. i dont mean every games needs to look like FarCry 3 or anything, but im just not a fan of games that dont look as good. hence i cannot get into many Indie games. (that and many Indie Games are side scrollers and i dont like those either haha)

my point is just the game did no appeal to me personally. i cannot and will not knock anything about the game because i know nothing of it or its predecessors.

i contradict myself here by saying this, but i think i would like X-Com. i do plan on getting it whenever it gets a price drop and i see it on Sale.

idk. maybe i would like Wasteland 2. i cannot say for sure from a short video like that. usually when i see a game is turn based i just turn away, because i havent found one i liked yet, except some of the newer FF games, which were only partyly turn based (FF12 and FF13 are the two ive played, FF12 was more turn based then FF13)

i guess i should refrain from giving a complete "i hate it already" until i see more.

EDIT: yet more humiliation. i actually watched the entire video this time (i had not done so before) the game doesnt look completely bad. that graphics arent quite as bad as i thought, not bad enough to deter me anyways. and i think i just might be able to get over the turn based combat, but the one thing that bugs me now, as someone said, is the dialogue. i do not want to sit there and read the entire time. ironically when watching movies or playing games, i always have captions enabled, i dont mind reading while listening it flows better to me. but sitting and reading blocks of text with no sounds at all, i dont think ill like. that would really deter me from exploring dialogue options and stuff.

that said, i think now at least ill keep my eye out on the game. i would pay no more then $20 for this game (i saw that $15 got you the game if you backed it, so idk what the final price will be). but ya, my full informed two cents :P

These days turn based is more about forcing the player to make a commitment to what they're doing vs anything to do with engine limitations.

In this case, its more about the nostalgia of the thing I guess.

It was announced from the very start that Wasteland 2 would have turn based combat and people paid almost three million $ for it, so..

The game looks ace, probably the best 50$ I ever spent.
