Comrade275 Posted December 24, 2008 Share Posted December 24, 2008 I made a mod called Light Machine gun LMG @ http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2006 But the problem is that the best model I could find for it was the combat shotgun.So I would like it if someone could put the combat shotgun's Drum mag on to an assault rifle so I could use that instead. Skree000 Posted December 26, 2008 Share Posted December 26, 2008 The hand-positioning on the assault rifle differs from that of the shotgun, as do the reload animations., If you were to cut and paste a drum magazine on the assault rifle (to do it well would require extensive modelling and retexturing) the animation would look all fubar'd unless someone comes up with a custom animation. (that takes lots of know how. I think ive seen one or two people successfully create a new animation and get it working in game) but for the most part, your best bet is to either stick with either the regular assault rifle, or the shotgun. Or make your own weapon that has the hand-placements in the same spots as the existing shotgun or assault rifle, and import it in as a duplicate of that type then swap out with your new mesh/texture. Anything is doable, your request requires a bit of heavy work, but is not impossible. Your mod does look ambitious though, so not trying to hold you back here. If you really want to get technical and do it yourself your first step should be to learn a 3d program such as 3dstudio Max, Blender, Maya, Lightwave, or XSI. Once you are familiar with 3d you can tinker with that and read some of the newly made animation-import tutorials and see what you can come up with. Animation in 3d packages has a steep learning curve, and importing them into editors is way way steeper (almost vertical) unless you have extremely specific tutorials. Id love to see some LMGs in the game, I hope you can go through with this! Maybe an M60 or a Bren gun :) Edit: one thing i just thought of, the easiest workaround you could do is add the drum mag to the assault rifle in a 3d program (try to do it well if you can), then see if you can take the reload animation from the shotgun and put it on that weapon. (not sure but im pretty certain you can take different animations from different guns and put them on your own. (ie. reload anim from one and use the firing anim from another. To my way of thinking I'd take the minigun backback and make it an ammo store for the LMG which would give it a belt feed from this and a store of around 300-500 rounds. Now that would be a fun thing to carry. Oh and I'd make the reload time real long ,,,, so if run out better switch to something else quick. The modeling would be the hard part, sadly, I'm not very good with graphic art stuff, but this is extremely doable, just keep looking till you find someone good with graphic art stuff.
