JSawyer - Safe to use for a long/slow complete game? Bugs?

Hi guys,

As you can see from my previous (XP/Leveling) post I've just started the game with this mod installed.

I'm using the latest version of the mod and have just reached Novac. I noticed that when trading with Cliff some of the DT stats for armour don't appear until you mouse on/off them a few times and sometimes when they do appear they swap between DT and DR (also they sometimes appear greyed out). Finally there's a 'Wastelander's Gear' outfit that seems massively under priced, DT 12 for 40-something caps... (looks just like the Merc Troublemaker outfit). I know Sawyer distributed some armour between Cliff and Mike (Who I haven't yet met) and am hoping that this is just a minor display bug with these two traders.

Have been really enjoying my play-through so far, but noticing these bugs has made me wonder if I might be best off just removing the mod and starting again with 'slow leveling' and 'stimpack weight' mods. I'd rather not, obviously, as not only have I put a few hours in so far, but it also adds stuff I like + quite a few bugs fixes (some of which aren't single files on Nexus). However I don't want to put a lot of hours in and then discover that it is actually pretty buggy and wish that I'd just played it safe mod-wise (I'm playing *very* slowly as though it was a 'Dead is Dead' play-through).

Any thoughts very much appreciated!

No SPOILERS please ;).

(FYI - Mods I'm using are: DarN's UI, MTUI. Weapon Mod Menu, IMP's Timescale Adjuster, MCM and oHUD - So nothing affecting game play other than the time-scale and primary needs adjustment. If I remove 'JSawyer' Cliff's trading menu works fine again, though the 'Wastelander's Gear' is still listed )

What you describe is actually a display bug that occurs whenever an apparel piece has DR in a menu. Because DR and DT share the same display field, the game toggles back and forth between them when both are present, but it does so for EVERY ITEM ON THE DISPLAY MENU.

Which can be vexing, but isn't anything to worry about.

Thanks for the rapid reply!

Guess I'd just never noticed it before then if it's in the vanilla game, or maybe it's just on the adjusted/new stuff Sawyer added? The DT/DR toggling doesn't look bad, just a slow fade between the two. What exactly do you mean by 'it does so for EVERY ITEM ON THE DISPLAY MENU'? That if one item has DR all items will display oddly?

Does that DR bug also cover the DT/DR field being completely blank sometimes (or the numbers greyed out) until repeatedly moused over?

Finally then, the 'Wastelander's Gear' pricing is likely just a bit of a mistake?

Thanks a lot for the info man, really appreciate it.

Yeah, if one item has both DT and DR, all items in the menu (Trade or container) will flip back and forth. Actually, IIRC, they DON'T 'switch' but display whichever state change your pipboy was on, which results in oddities.

If it's DT that the gear has, it's probably an error, make sure you're getting the right value. A twelve is awful high, so that might be a DR value you're seeing.

Yeah, mine switches back and forth over 2 secs between DT and DR and sometimes just displays no value at all (I don't mean --), not sure what you mean by 'whichever state change your pipboy was on' - do you just mean dependent on which item you viewed in the PB last?

The Wastelander's Gear is def DT: 12, with a very low value of ~40 caps. I've just picked up a Merc Leather Outfit, Reinforced which has DT:10 (good condition) with a value of ~1,200 caps. Both have some extra skill improvements. Another very minor annoyance is Sawyer has created some new Merc variants adding 'Reinforced' at the start of the name. I know this is extremely anal, but I just find it inconsistent when all other items seem to have it after, i.e. Combat Armor, Reinforced (yes, stuff like this bugs me...).

If I go for a restart without JSawyer I'd prob use the following mods along with the ones already mentioned:

Slower leveling (x2 as long): http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36411

Less Carry Weight: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/38723

Weighted Stimpacks: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35517

Ideally I'd like to lower initial player health and fix the Grunt, The Professional and Cowboy perks to include the right weapons. Unfortunately, although there are quite a few fixes on Nexus perk-wise none cover all the missing weapons (other than JSawyer) so you have to pick and choose... Regarding the lower player health, again there's not just one simple one, so again I'd be worried about balance later into the game.

I think that's about as close as I can get to the same experience, but hopefully without any issues. I might remove the Weapon Mod Menu just to be on the safe-side as it looks like most/all mods are weapon specific meaning you won't be swapping them that much, rather just have to buy them again for the unique guns - Or am I wrong here?

Thanks a lot again for the help.
