Solstheim CTD - ONLY around Temple of Miraak.

I'm having this problem too, I start crashing around the Temple, and i got into the habit of quicksaving every 5 seconds, and I was finally able to trudge through to the Black Book, but I cant load the Black Book. It always crashes to desktop no matter what, I tried disabling every mod, except Update,Dawnguard, and Dragonborn, and I still crash. I have cleaned every master file except Skyrim.esm, even run BOSS a few times and cleaned what I could there. I have no clue what to do.

Edit: After installing the Unofficial Dragonborn Patch, random CTD's stopped occuring. However, I still crash when entering the Black Book

Hey, I'm unsure of how long this forum has been active for but I'm experiencing a similar issue. I crash either just before I enter the dungeon at the temple or crash when trying to kill the two cultists at the temple. Also when I try loading any saves made in the vicinity of the temple I CTD.

I guess it's worth mentioning that I've already visited the Greybeards, but, I haven't yet retrieved the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Now I don't know whether there's a certain point you have to reach in the main quest before you can visit Solstheim or nah.

 

Any suggestions? Because it's really annoying due to the time it takes to load in the first place. :/ :pinch: :dry:

Same for me (near stairs to miraak temple). Any ideas how to fix it?

Not sure where I am near (on Solsthiem, of course). Outside. Made the mistake of saving, evidently at the edge of the occurrence. Now loading the Quicksave CTD's. INI changes have not helped.

 

I have installed the Alternate Start mod which started my PC in Solsthiem. And since this PC has never been in Skyrim (well except maybe having been abducted from there), she hasn't met with the Greybeards.

 

Reloaded an earlier save and made my way to the area inquestion. It was daylight this time... And I have been able to proceed...

 

This is good and bad news. Bad: Whatever is causing this still exists. Good: Maybe now I can find my way off this rock.

[sOLVED] I was having this problem too; couldn’t find Frea and was crashing at the Miraak Temple (always at 8pm which is when I presume an event was supposed to trigger etc.), and after I cobbled together multiple answers I think I fixed it with an in game solution.

NOTE if my setup is different to yours it might be worth trying anyway, as it could be one aspect of another.

I was using Alternate Start to go straight to Ravens Rock and I never had any of the initial story lines where you meet Neloth at the stones outside of town, but I was having the dreams and I explored most of the island on my own, until I realised the plot with all the shrines and the temple were going nowhere so I googled it and found out I needed to complete the ‘

The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller’ story line first back in Skyrim.

VERY long story short I traveled back to Skyrim and did all the stories that lead to it (you can’t just to the dungeon where it is as the path will be blocked). These story points for your convenience are in order:

1 - Go to Helgen and discover the body by the gate

2 - Go to Riverwood and tell someone about the dragon until they tell you to go tell the JArl in Whiterun

3 - Go to Whiterun and speak to the Jarl who will send you the wizard Farengar who will send you to the Bleak Falls Barrow to get the dragon stone

4 - Get the stone from there and return then join the soldiers who fight the dragon at the watchtower

5 - Return to the Jarl at Whiterun who send you to the Greybeards where you learn your Dragonborn powers (you may see now why you may need to do this before you do the “Dragonborn” DLC :S)

NOW they send you on the quest to get the The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. BUT WAIT!!!

Once I did this and got the note that it had already been taken I was all excited and traveled by to Solstein, went to the Temple of Miraak to wait for Frea (as I had read online I needed to do) and BLAM! Crashes at 8pm. I even used a console command as someone suggest to have her turn up, but she won't talk to me. Don’t do this.

6 - What I needed to do was ONE MORE STEP which was just go to Riverwood or Whiterun etc. (I did Roverwood but I think Whiterun might work) and you get attacked by Cultists of Miraak, find and read the note on one of then , and THEN a new story quest is added and now you are guided by the quest to Solstien, find characters you have met (if you have already skipped ahead to Solsteim) now have new things to say.

7 - Go to the shrine outside of Ravens Rock and you’ll see Neloth there even if you’ve met him elsewhere, who after talking to him will SEND YOU to the Temple of Miraak.

8 Now when you go there (I went in the day before 8pm JUST IN CASE) you’ll see Frae in the middle of the Temple Shrine talk to the possessed people and you can talk to her and go in the dungeon under the temple and Voilà the story has started!

I’ve got quite far into the story without issue now so I hope it works for you. The lesson here is if you try to skip ahead in things in Skyrim be prepared to do the missing steps eventually if you want the story to progress, and MAKE SURE you get all the invites/questlines to trigger the events. Skipping ahead rarely works out well :S.
