Panzer4
In vanilla Oblivion, I set all the sliders all the way to the right and the game runs silky smooth with only the occasional stutter, which I believe is just the way it goes. FPS is usually between 40 and 50. I should add that my computer is about seven years old. My video card is a Radeon HD 4670. I have about 30 mods installed, working fine, including OOO, sliders still to the max. The only mod I've installed that specifically affects graphics is ImpeREAL Cities. My question is whether it might affect graphics outside the Imperial City itself, because now I'm getting pauses and lags throughout Cyrodiil, though by no means to the point of unplayability, and my fps are somewhat lower, but still never lower than about 20. I suppose it could be because of the extra demand on my CPU (2.4 GhZ) or my system RAM (2 Gigs). What do you guys say?
FiftyTifty
Woah-woah-woah! The 4670 runs Oblivion like a dream? My 6670 craps out on Oblivion D: If your system has more than 2 cores, set Oblivion to use 2. Also, your hard drive could be Sata 1, or just pish. If it's IDE, that'd be why. Try de-fragging. Panzer4
Go figure, eh? It runs it really well, except now with the few mods, as I mentioned, it's having some issues, though I emphasize that by no means of deal-breaker magnitude. And my HDD is IDE, so I suppose that's perhaps a main source of trouble, right? Also, my CPU is simgle core. I know, I know--time to upgrade, but it's a matter of finances. In the meantime I'll defrag. Thanks.
discovery1
Recently changed to a ssd drive (264 gig) to run oblivion and skyrim. Results are encouraging, gained 5 fps on oblivion and 10 on skyrim.Oblivion loads 3 times quicker, no real change on skyrim. Better cities lags terribly around waterfront and worse with Wac installed, but does not crash. Both games have 200 odd mods and I have found it absolutely to patch oblivion exe to 4 gig (64 bit system and use Oss)With both games set to best graphics and all the texture mods I get 30 fps on oblivion and 40 odd on skyrim. Its taken a long time to get oblivion running smoothly with no crashes and it seems a little weird now lol!The biggest advantage of the ssd is the stutter is not noticeable anymore on such a big modded game, no hard drive to fragment the files! Panzer4
I look forward to the day when I can build a new rig with a ssd. Until then I have to deal with what I have. I am truly impressed that you were able to get over 200 mods to play well together. That would probably cause my old machine to burst into flames. Thanks for the response.
