Seriously! This is sounding fancy! And very complex! Should be an amazing mod.

I have a few questions though:

1. What exactly is the player's role in things like contracts and base defense?

2. If you send your guys out on a contact what is an example of what they will do? Will you be able to go to the place and see them there doing their job?

3. When there is a base attack will there be an actual battle in your base? Can you participate?

Just some little details I was wondering about ;)

The players role will be the initial management in making decisions that will keep the base secure and make revenue. You can focus all your money to base defense, but you'll miss out on other benefits. Same goes with contracts. The player will not be participating in the actual contracts except for the one-time deals and the free play mode. The player can assist or perform the contracts on their own in that case.

The contracts use AI packages that are made ahead of time. Things like patrol and guard packages. Let's say with the Big Town contract, after you accept that then when you travel to big town, you will see your staff performing their duties. So yes, you will see your staff working all of the contracts.

As for the base attacks. Yes there will be an actual battle and yes, the player will most likely need to participate... especially early on. The player will be notified if the base is fixing to be attacked (high detection modifier) or if the base is under attack. If the player has a high defense modifier then are not required to participate as much. The only calculated and scripted things are if the enemy will travel inside of underground base and if they will loot.

The attacks get more difficult as you gain reputation. But if you are gaining rep, you should also be able to make more money and hire more people to compensate for it.

Overall the player will have a decent amount of participation, but they won't have to run around and perform 30 contract missions. I basically want there to be enough going on to give the player something to do between quests rather then focusing solely on a new quest. When I play the game I force myself to explore and do other things because the game/quest progress seems to move too quickly. It wasn't like the first time I played the game where it took me an hour just to navigate to GNR.

A few questions.

1) So if I'm understanding this correctly the player can perform the contracts like the assassinations on his own?

2) Can you actually beat your game or does this mod never end?

3) Will there be an option to conquer other areas from Raiders or Super Mutants...

4) Will your reputation influence the behavior of the NPC's. I mean if your reputation is low, will they be mean towards you and if your rep. is very high, will they honor you like a god?

1. Yes. The one time contracts are like small missions that the player can do on their own, with help, or have someone else do it. It is a perfect chance for the player to make money without having to invest in staff for the mission. Or if the player is tied up with other stuff and doesn't want to do it themselves, they can have an NPC do it.

2. There isn't a real ending. You will eventually run out of contracts and that is it. You will still have the Free Play mode that is endless. If people like mod well enough and there is demand for more, I want to create mission packs that can be added on to provide new contracts. This will also give me a chance to make some complex contracts.

3. Yes and No. You can't "own the area", but you will be able to send units to the location to keep it secure. Though, if you remove your units from that location, the enemy may respawn there again.

4. I do plan on having your rep effect reactions the same way Karma does. It will essentially be the same effect. The best example is if you have a lot of "good" karma and you have a high Merc rep people in Paradise Falls will respect you as if you had a lot of evil karma.

Ok sounds great;).

But Paradise Falls is a slavers town right? So shouldn't you have a evil karma there?

Can't wait for this either.

Well if you have evil karma in Paradise Falls those guys will apologize to you for bumping into you. If you have good karma, you can still get in but they will not treat you the same. What I am saying that with a high merc rep, the slavers will be respectful to you even if you have good karma. People will fear you as if you were evil... to the extent of "respect".

I've seen some mods come by, but this one is exactly what I'm looking for :)

The only thing you could add is more base customization.

Like for an X amount of caps you could buy a minefield, or guard dogs, or something. This would cost you X amount everyday to.

Another idea:

Maybe you could make it like in Saints Row 2(the idea) You start with a *piehole*, and when your reputation grows you see your base growing, not only unlock several rooms, but also with a cleaner meshall, better lightning, more luxury things?

If you need help on some things, please PM me :)

MERC - Needs Website/Support Staff

In lieu of the direction and expansion of this mod, I decided it will need a larger website to provide the information needed for the end users. I'll be putting up either a WordPress or Wiki based site up for the mod and I am looking for 1 or 2 people who would be interested in staffing it. As the title suggest, these people will not be doing technical support... but supporting the website. With the additional of the contract and free-play systems added to the mod, there is a lot of information people will need to jump into the mod at full capacity.

Job Description:

- Create, edit, and maintain content on the website.

- Add pictures and videos.

- Create documentation in reference to the mod.

- Help answer any questions/comments made by users

- Use to mode thoroughly to gain knowledge about the mod.

Job Requirements:

- Simple understanding of HTML and post formatting (links, fonts, colors)

- Good spelling and grammar (English)

- Have Fallout 3 for PC, not Xbox.

The spelling and grammar thing... I'm not perfect at it, but the main thing is decent sentence structure. People who never use uppercase letters when they should, never use comas, or just make posts that take days to understand - need not apply.

I can't offer much in return. I hope there is someone out there that loves the mod and wants to see the mod succeed. It would greatly help me if can focus time on working on the mod instead of on the website.

send me a PM if interested.

Well this should be the last post in this thread. I got the blog up and most of the content. I still need to work on the design/theme, but it is otherwise ready to role. If you are following the progress of this mod, save the following link since I will no longer be adding updates in this thread.
