nikwriter
I've got two ideas which are also a question. The question is: are these ideas a WIP anywhere? Open Cities is a great mod. What about Open Caves / Dungeons / Ruins / etc? I guess it would take a fair bit of computer power to run, but even if you could pick and choose which of these you would want (so that you don't overload your worldspace), that'd be cool. Also, are there any ideas to get Solstheim into the same worldspace as Skyrim? So you could actually see the same heightmaps and such from the corner of Skyrim and vice versa from Raven Rock, and if you had the patience run there with waterwalking. McclaudEagle
There are two problems with having dungeons and other interiors in the main worldspace. The first is that performance would likely drop a lot, especially with all the added NPCs, scripts and lighting. The second is that the worldspace lighting would also affect the interiors. In other words, if it was bright and sunny outside, then it will also be the same inside the cave. Unfortunately, I don't think the Creation Engine allows for it to work in any other way. Deleted1308005User
Might be just a bit too tricky to do.It should be possible to attach some sort of activator that changes the weather once player crosses it, thus simulating the "Dark Cave" feel. But I'd say it's impossible, due to many reasons:All quests would need to be relocated, edited, or otherwise adjusted, to fit into this new world. It's horrible amount of work.Performance impact is huge. Probably would require really powerful PC and lowered settings to run.And who knows what kind of issues might pop up with it?It'd be incompatible with anything that adds anything new into dungeons. It's just.. Not practical.Open cities is different, as city is single "interior", and thus it's possible. As the city area is often quite similar to areas outside of city walls.( Weather, amount of clutter etc.)Mm.. Maybe I could try those open cities mods.. They do sound like interesting.
Draven991
It would be completely awesome if it was able to be done. I know Dragon Age: Inquisition does it, but the game was designed for it from the ground up - maybe the ability to do it didn't exist when Bethesda was making Skyrim, or maybe it did and they just didn't want to do it that way. bben46
Your present computer - no matter how powerful, just couldn't handle it. Interiors are separate world spaces for a reason - the detail and large number of discrete objects that have to be rendered constantly. A small interior included in an open world space can be done without too much loss of performance - but 3 or 4 of those even small spaces - such as a group of typical houses near to each other would likely bring your computer to a crawl. Having to render every interior in every building in a city would cause it to choke. Even larger buildings get broken into smaller worldspaces to keep from bogging down. Even the exterior is broken down into cells - and only a few nearby cells are fully rendered - the cells further away have less detail until you get near. With a slow computer you can get pauses as you cross from one exterior cell into another while the computer draws the next cell in higher detail.
