Mounted Combat...?

After so very long of not even bothering with it, I finally tried mounted combat. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a guided missile! Can anyone give me some tips as to how to get the most out of it? Every time I dismount, my horse takes off running and ends up lost until my next fast-travel, so I'd rather not keep chasing it around.

You could always try Convienient Horses that'll allow you to have your horse follow you and you'll also be able to call the horse back to you even if it gets lost. There are options that you can set that will make NPC's not attack your horse, too.

As far the mounted combat goes, there really isn't nothing I can tell you. If you're using a bow or crossbow and sitting stationary on a horse, then aim at their feet because the bolts or arrows fly a little too high for some reason. There may be a fix for that, but I haven't found one. Hopefully this helps, friend.

It's the archery that does me in. I keep forgetting it aims way too high.

For melee, the enemy has to be basically right next to the horse's neck, between the head and where you're sitting. If they're on the right, right button. If they're on the left, left button.

Oh, and if it's an enemy that keeps trying to circle you (like wolves), go to walking speed or you'll just end up circling each other endlessly.

I don't know if it's like this by default or something added by Convenient Horses, but if you pull out your weapon, sprint and ram into an enemy, it knocks them on their ass and does quite a bit of damage. It's pretty funny.

Oh god, I've got to test that out. I know that with certain block perks (can't remember which) that can be done on foot with a shield up, but I didn't know it could be done on horseback.
