abk90
Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem. I was installing mods until I ran into a mod that told me to change a line in the .ini file , that line was "bnvalidateOlderFiles=0". I had to change it to "bnvalidateOlderFiles=1" . I checked in the documents and settings\my games where a Fallout 3 folder was located. But I find a load of scripts but I just cant find the ini file. I checked all the scripts looking for the "bnvalidateOlderFiles=0" but I didn't find anything. :wallbash: Any bit of evidence that can help me find this file would be much appreciated. Thanks! Tabatron
The filename might be Fallout_default. That is what mine is.
CowgirlFromHell
The filename might be Fallout_default. That is what mine is.Yeah. The file is called "Fallout_default.ini" and is located in your Fallout 3 folder; should be in the same one as the GECK.

PhantX
The .ini is named Fallout.ini and is located in.. C:/Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Games/Fallout3
kyosuke1000
The .ini is named Fallout.ini and is located in.. C:/Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Games/Fallout3 not entirely correct on my computer and some others it was not named fallout.ini when downloaded it automatically chose notepad to be what it opened with meaning the .ini does not appear after the name fallout however if it is not set to auto open with notepad or another text software then its name will be fallout.ini
abk90
What I actually meant was that I went to the Fallout folder and I saw all these things that open in note pads, but none of those notepads were .ini . I opened each note pad and did the Ctrl+f search for the key words "bnvalidate" but found nothing. I bought and downloaded this game off steam if that has anything to do with it? PhantX
C:/Documents and Settings/Username/My Documents/My Games/Fallout3 Go there, and in there, find a file named Fallout. It will be either Fallout.ini or just Fallout. Right click, go to 'Open With' and choose notepad. Also, I believe its bInvalidate. Hope that helps. That can be corrected in XP by going to Control Panel - Folder Options - View and unchecking 'Hide extensions for known file types'. It's probably close to the same method for Vista. Handy if you have several different types of files with the same name. The line you want is "bInvalidateOlderFiles=0" in the [archives] section. Change the zero to one. abk90
Yes! It worked! After unchecking the box that said "Hide extensions for known file types" then checked my folder I noticed 3 ini files. Then searching for the keyword Binvalidateolderfiles=0 I found the line. I guess who ever told me to search bnvalidate was wrong =/ . Thank you Phantx and esrafael for all your help, I'll give you guys kudos i guess.
