I've been trying to get this running well but It's just not working. I've done my research and tried stuff on my own and its now time to ask for help I guess.

  • System: i52500k, 16gb ram, Windows 7-64, HD7970 on 13.1 drivers, SSD.
  • Legal (purchaed) Version: 1.8.151.0, Dawngaurd, Hearthfire, & Dragonborn.

I can play for a bit (Anywhere from 5-30min) and then I will have a CTD or a infinite loadscreen.

Most common issues are :

  • Consistent CTDs that vary (interior/exterior/action)
  • Infinite Load Screens
  • Floating/Flying Horse
  • Distance glitches

I've also done a bunch to my ini's. Is this a case of "too much" or am I experiencing a conflict of some kind?

Thanks,

As I mentioned in the chat - you should try disabling a few mods at a time to see if there's any difference. I'd start with bigger mods that have multiple incompatabilities in general like Open Cities and SkyRe.

Also isn't BOSS asking for a compatability patch for Elven Overhaul? Not sure if I'm blind, but I didn't find any in your list. I'm suprised you're running so many heavily scripted mods - I'd never dare to myself considering how bloated the saves are going to get eventually.

You are using too many mods.

It's not just the 'number' of mods you are using, but the scope of the modifications they make to the game (e.g. SkyRe). Too many mods using continually updating scripts. I am also willing to wager you are running a number of 'HD texture replacer' type mods that don't come with a plugin and therefore don't show up in your BOSS log. Most mod users of 'big load orders' don't like to hear this, but the pathetic game engine is only capable of so much, regardless of how powerful your rig may be. The only way to ensure stability for a large load order is to make your own custom compatibility patches, but even that will do nothing to offset game instability resulting from too much stress on the game engine.

I recommend trimming your mod list followed by a new game (so you won't have to deal with orphan junk left in save games by uninstalled mods). For example, if you experience 'Infinite Load Screens' while attempting to enter a tavern, then you know LIAT is responsible. If the 'Infinite Load Screens' also happens when you are entering cities, then you know 'Populate Cities' is also stressing your set up. Any combination of the numerous script mods in your load order can cause freezes and CTDs (Frostfall, Footprints, RnD, SkyRe, Wet n' Cold, CoS, player headtracking <-- and you look to be using an outdated version, just to name a few).

The other thing is that ini settings can contribute to game instability as well. Something like 'ugridstoload' should never be altered from the default game value, contrary to suggestions made by numerous 'ini optimization guides' floating around the interwebs. Most of the ini tweaks are intended to generate performance gains at the expense of stability. Unless you have an old machine and need to optimize the ini settings just to have playable framerates, it's best you stick to the default game ini settings.

I agree with what ripple wrote (waaay too many mods).

But wrt what Njorunn recommended, I would personally take a different approach. I wouldn't disable a few mods at a time, I would disable 50% of the mods (say all the mods beginning with N-Z). If Skyrim works with no problems, then I would enable 50% of the mods that were disabled (say N-S). And continue till you find the mod or mods that are causing the problems.

Finally, everyone gets random CTDs after playing for a while (as soon as 4GB memory is accessed? - maybe that's just a myth, though). I can personally say it's much better with Skyrim than it was (for me) with Oblivion.
