Thieves Guild Questline

I started the thieves guild questline and the 'Loud and Clear' Quest does not start. Taking Care of Business is completed and I get that message but Loud and Clear does not start. Unfortunately, I have 230+ mods installed, most of them minor fixes and tweaks. After much searching and disabling many many mods I was unable to start the quest however I try, tried to start the quest using console as well, but could not. I am now revamping Skyrim, uninstall everything and installing some choicest set of mods, well, I won't blame myself if I end up with a load of mods once again.

 

Anyway, I had read it sometime ago and now I remember, that if you kill a thief before starting the Thieves guild quest, then you may have issue with the Thieves guild quest..is that true?

 

if this is the reason for my issue, then, well I did kill a thief on the way to Riften, did not think much about it then, but now I regret uninstalling everything for a stupid bug rather than waiting a little while and testing some more.

by chance do you have a housing mod installed? 7k better whiterun or improved villages was known to cause your problem. disabling it can fix it.</p>

 

Also. if you cut off him off while finishing taking care of business or speed through the dialogue it can bug out and could cause this issue. Never heard anything about killing a thief causing this problem. But this game still suprises me still with its crazy bugs.

Thanks, I have many housing mods installed, did not think it is likely to cause any issues with the quests...but you may be right, I see many other forums saying the same. I do not have 7K or Improved Villages, I have a couple of small housing mods that add some houses to different locations across skyrim, but disabling them also did not resolve the issue..may be I should have completely removed them. Anyway, I am starting a new game and lets see if it works fine with the housing mods removed.
