Please advise -- load order, conflicts; CTD at game start

Hey folks. So, I installed a clean Skyrim, went and installed a bunch of mods, trying to keep from installing incompatible ones (but I may have done so nonetheless), use BOSS and NMM. Went to run a new game of Skyrim and I'm getting a CTD as the game begins (just about when you can start hearing the wheels on the carriage).

 

I've tried using Wrye Bash a bit, but when I tried to rebuild my patch I got a Microsoft C++ Runtime error and WB closed. Not sure if that would help in any case--WB claimed only two mods could be merged.

Update: unchecked about half of the mods, loaded the game, and got as far as the very beginning of the opening scene, before any dialogue kicked in.

If you are having issues with Wrye Bash 303, try downloading version 302.1 from WB's sourceforge page and see if you can generated a Bashed Patch without errors--but that is not what is causing your CTDs (but you should still have a Bashed Patch).

 

Try removing the horribly outdated script dragon, as well as all script dragon related mods, such as

  Dual Wield Parrying_ScriptDragon.esp Active
  

  • Note: Use only one Dual Wield Parrying*.esp
  • Requires: ScriptDragon)

For DWP, switch to the latest SKSE version. In fact, check to make sure you are running the latest version for all your mods.

I'll check out the older Wrye Bash, but I don't have Script Dragon, and I disabled DWP on my last round of removals. Fairly certain all of my mods are up to date, since I picked them up over the last 3 days. Also, I thought I had grabbed the SKSE version of DWP, but apparently not. Thanks for the reply.

I guess Headbomb finally updated his better sorting mod? It was horribly outdated for a long time and the error records it contained was giving some users no end of grief. Double check when the files for that mod were last uploaded. At least make sure you update this particular plugin. Go through the entire log in case I missed any other error messages.

 

2) This is unrelated to your CTD issue, but you'll need to download Wrye Bash and generate a Bashed Patch to merge the conflicting leveled lists edits from those 'give more stuff to NPCs' mods you are using (eg. cloaks of skyrim, winter is coming, etc.). Also, go ahead and delete the optional plugins for CoS and WiC or move them out of your game data folder, because you don't need them to clutter the load order and while they don't get loaded when they are not active, they do get scanned when the game loads, and there is no reason to extend the game loading time by even a millisecond.

 

3) Did BOSS generate a list of plugins it did not recognize?

I also picked up the Ore Extractor Spell mod from STEAM, but every time I go back to the standard Skyrim load and check the Data files, it's unchecked.

 

I don't know why it's saying Better Sorting and Duel are out of date--I've redownloaded both about three times, and still get the same messages/indications. The version numbers line up with their newest iterations, too.

 

The game runs now until a few lines into the conversation in the wagon, then CTD.

 

What's SUM.esp? Do I need that?

Seems to be CTDing now at the same point each time--the thief in the wagon is speaking, says, "Damn you Stormcloaks, Skyrim was fine until you came along, an--" crash.
