redrew89
EDIT: Oopsies... This thread should probably go into Requests, as I know I'll need assistance to make it happen. Sorry! :S I had an idea that I've been kicking around in my brain for a bit, and felt like dumping it somewhere I can get some feedback. But, first, some background about myself. While I've always wanted to take part in some kind of modding project (be it a game like Minecraft, where creation takes precedence, or a game like Skyrim, where combat and story are more important) but have little knowledge and skill when it comes to actually working with a game engine, I would like to offer my skills as a writer, to anyone who's looking for something new to work on. To anyone who wants to see samples of my writing, I can provide an example or two. Here's what I've been thinking about: Am I the only one disappointed by the ending of the Civil War quest line? Depending on your faction alignments, it all seems to end on a rather bland note. You're congratulated for your victory, and told to be on the look out for any enemy camps, still hidden in the hills. That's it. No fanfare. I realize, for a Bethesda game, a lot more emphasis was likely put on just letting the player take two minutes to chug another Monster, then letting them have the reigns so they can go back to killing stuff and power-leveling, but I, for one, feel that closure is needed. I really like how the Diplomatic Immunity section of the main quest forces the player to behave less like a battle-crazed savage, and take two or three moments to adopt some sophistication. The political intrigue was certainly riveting, and interacting with Elenwen was a treat (despite one's opinion of the character). I propose, in line with that particular quest, that a quest line be developed that initiates with the coronation of whichever Jarl comes out of the Civil War on top. Be it Ulfric or Elisif, depending on the player's faction. If the Civil War is 'resolved' a courier will deliver an invitation to the Dragonborn, to attend the Grand Coronation Gala. This initiates the first quest in a story line that takes the player deeper in to the political machinations of Skyrim, it's continued interactions with the Empire, whether prosperous or tenuous, and further exploration of the Thalmor, and their continued activities, throughout Tamriel. The Gala itself will be a less straight-forward sort of quest. I feel that players tend to enjoy an experience that pushes them ever so slightly out of their usual comfort zone, while the abundance of "go here and kill the enemies" quests start to get stale after so long. Similar to the Season Unending quest, where the player's decisions affect the outcome, conversations had with other guests of the Gala will affect the quest as it progresses. After the Gala's conclusion, the new High King or Queen of Skyrim will have a unique task for the player, which furthers the underlying story This is likely to be an ambitious project, demanding the talents of gifted modders, scripters, animators, and perhaps even voice actors, in order to create what could, in all possibility, be considered a true fan-made DLC. If anyone had an interest in hearing more ideas, I can start drafting the basic outline of the story, and perhaps script some dialogue for the Coronation Gala. At the moment, I have only loose ideas. However, I can easily straighten them into a coherent plot structure. Give me feedback, ideas, and let me know if this is something you'd like to see. Thanks for reading! Edited February 21, 2013 by redrew89
