Mordor The Last God
I've finally created a sword. it was so difficult but now comes the pain: I created a NIF file ready to be exported into TES .........BUT.........When I load it in TES I can see just the color I used in 3dsmax.So my question IS... How could I color my sword with TEXTURES? Where Can I find them?Could I make them by myself? And just a little question. :P How could I say to my character where he must hold my sword?I wouldn't put my sword in the game and see the character who holds my sword by the blade. I think you can understand what I meant even if i'm not english. :construction: THANKS FOR YOUR COLLABORATION!!! :construction:
Geonox
Ok you have to make the texutres yourself or use one which is created by someone else (remember to give credits to that person if you release it as a plugin) . In Max press M, then the material menu will be opened. Then click on the word "Shader Basic Parameters". Then you will get a new menu. Select from the dropdown menu, TesShader. You will notice that the word Blinn Shader is replaced by TES Shader. You will see four colorboxes, ambient, diffuse, speculair and emittance. You have to set the first 2 boxes to white. Make the third one blue and leave the last one black. Scroll down and click on Maps. You will get a list with options. Click on the button which says None (behind Base). Then you will get a new popup menu. Click on New, and then in the right list click on Bitmap. Then select your image and apply the texture to the mesh.About placing the sword in the hand.As far as I know you have to place the pivot to the place where you want your character to hold it. To move the pivot goto the Hierarchy menu and select, affect pivot only. Then move it to the place where you want it to be...

Akrid
I also have a question about 3DsMax, I thought I would post my question here rather than make yet another thread on 3DsMax. Anyway, When I tried to make my own crossbow nif I found a error when testing the game, each time I fire the crossbow it gives me a message about "arrow bone", and "player save game" Makes no sense to me. But I'm sure it's caused by not having any animation for the nif (it's a cannon instead of crossbow). I also noticed this problem with the bow, and chest nif's or any nif that has a built-in animation. How do I make my own crossbow nif?
Geonox
Moddel it in 3D max. But as far as I know, a bow hasn't got any animation. Mabey the arrow does but I don't think so. Mabey it's just a bug in the game. And a cuirass hasn't got animation, it's attached with a physique modifier to the biped parts. So if you want to make a cuirass you don't have to animate it. Morrowind will do that automaticly for ya.

BlackSlayer
Hey Mordor The Last God, I was wondering what version of 3dsMAX you used to export a .3ds file format into a .NIF file format I am currently using 3dsMAX 6 to make my models but I simply cannot directly export ti a .NIF file. By directly I mean that I have to save it as a 3ds file, open Anim8or, and from then save it as .NIF file. Even then I can't use it in the TES:CS because it is an unreconized .NIF and will not load. Do you have a 3dsMAX 6 plug-in I can use? Or I am doomed for all eternity. :bye: I know there are plug-ins for 3dsMAX 3-5 but I don't think you can ligelly download full, professional programs. So please, help me out!
Akrid
I use version 5.0 because there are no plugins for Export to TES in version 6.0. I forgot where I found the plugin to export nifs for version 5.0 but there out there. If your using version 6.0 your only hope is thatr somone makes a plugin for it. There are way fewer plugins for 6. than 5. and 3. thatrs the same reason I use photoshop 7. and not CS.
eviljim
I have max 4 and do not seem to have the "base" button under maps. i can use the "diffuse" map on most of my object but the important part (on a flat plane) will not take a texture. what is the equivalent in max 4 for the "base"? i've been fighting with trying to make this picture frame for a week now :( EDIT: lemme rephrase... it'll take a texture in 3dsmax but not in morrowind itself. i'm thinking maybe it's not reading the texture file i put in the \datafiles\textures directory.
