I am running a large number of mods, and I already know that it is asking for trouble, but I did anyways. Everything seemed to be alright (a limited amount of CTD's and other fails) until just recently. I did download some new mods just before it seemed to start happening, but I'd rather not have to remove the new mods (8 or so mods), so if anyone would be so kind, could you have a look at my mod lists to see if you see any obvious conflicts. Word of warning, its really long.

**MMM is up to 3.6beta 3 so you might want to update that. Go to the MMM thread on the Bethesda site to find out how to download as you'll also need another hunting and crafting esp afterwards. There's also some "teaser mods" that are being played now but will eventually be incorporated into the next version.

 

**Oscuros is at 1.34beta5 now.

 

**Tamriel Travelers is at 1.38

 

**Wrye Bash is at 230 version now. Also, are you turning the "mergeable" mods highlighted in green on Wrye Bash as "virtually active"? This will make them, when shown like above to have a ++ sign next to them if activated that way.

This will lower your mod total and make things faster letting the bashed patch do all the work.

 

 

**You're also using a lot of weapon/armor mods. This isn't a problem, but you might want to consider looking into TESGecko and how to run it in order to combine esp's.

So, you want to troubleshoot without removing the most likely cause of you problem? Try disabling the new mods instead of removing them. Then test to see if it works, then add in the new ones one at a time, testing each one before adding another one.

 

For effective troubleshooting you first MUST roll the mods back to a working game. Otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

 

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

 

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

 

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

 

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

what i'm going to say next is related to repetitive CTD's but not related to this person specifically but:

 

pluggy v122 has been causing frequent CTD's for reasons not able to be resolved due to the author not being able to be contacted. found this out on Bethesda forums where ppl were locating the problem of unknown constant CTD's.

pluggy v122 has been causing frequent CTD's for reasons not able to be resolved due to the author not being able to be contacted. found this out on Bethesda forums where ppl were locating the problem of unknown constant CTD's.

 

Which one are you talking about "pluggy v122"? Is it Ebony Boots of the Atronach? that one is # 122 (i think).

 

Oh and it only starts thanks to some work by Wyre Bash.

what i'm going to say next is related to repetitive CTD's but not related to this person specifically but:

i said this probably didn't apply to you. but pluggy is a OBSE pluggin not a mod. i haven't checked Bethesda forums yet if they fixed the issue with frequent CTD's. when i posted my last comment they were unable to contact the author.

 

again this might not apply to you.

 

to help your problem try using BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) it's "usually right" and it fixed most of my mod ordering issues. thought i have CTD's too but that's only because i have too much scripts and storage memory being taken up.
