A Call for Help!: Folks needed for Project: Scraptown

I have been working on a new town called Scraptown for the last week(Inspired by Bartertown from Beyond Thunderdome and Junktown from Fallout 1) Up till now i was under the mind set I could do this alone, but sadly I have realized I just can't. There is too much i just don't know with the Creation Set. This is a long post, with lots of background info on the town and it's locals. Hopefully this will inspire some to join me on this.

A quick background of the Scraptown mod:

Former travelling merchant Marvin St.John used to wander the wastes going from town to town scavenging and selling. He found a site of an old airliner that crashed into a bank when the bombs fell amde the old plane his home. Over the next year he began to build up the defenses around the plane to keep off the occasional raider or wild animal, but it wasn't until fellow merchants Crow and Crazy Wolfgang started making the place a 'home in the wastes', that Scraptown was born. Marvin (Some residents of town call him 'Marv' some call him 'The MC') decided that this was his calling, a safe-haven for the weary traveller and a place for merchants and people all around the DC Wastes to come to barter. With the help of a man named John Winslow, Marvin began to scour the wastes for materials to build the new marketplace. it was during one of his expeditions he came across a man named only Duvall who was shot and left for dead fending off a group of Molerats with a baseball bat and what few shots left in his 10mm. Marvin stepped in and saved the man, gave him water and some RadAway. Duvall, worn from days without water and suffering from an infectious gunshot wound, accepted Marvin's offer to travel back to the expanding Scraptown. Unable to walk, Duvall layed on the metal scrap Marvin's team of Brahmin were hauling, and they began the journey back. Along the way the came across a wasteland doctor named Malcom O'Connor, and made arrangements to get Duvall's wounds fixed up. The infection in his leg had created perminent damage, thus resulting in the limp he still has to this day. Over the next day Both Duvall and Malcom agreed to come to Scraptown and take up residence, Duvall as Marv's Head Guard and Malcom as the resident clinic owner. Over time many started to come thank to the word being spread by Crow, Crazy Wolfgang and the other travelling merchants. Despite the constant attacks by raider and the recent power and water problems the city has been having, life goes on in Scraptown. Duvall's strict policy on 'No Ammo within the walls' keeps issues to a minimum and the locals safe, atleast from an unsatified customer. During the market's hours (10am-10pm) the town is busy with bartering, but it is while the residents and visitors sleep at night in the old bank's basement/fallout shelter that Duvall's team shines. If residents listen closely they can hear gunfire and explosions from the nightly Raider attacks. But when the sun rises the town of traders re-opens without worry that thier wares will be missing. and thus life goes on in Scraptown. Folk can expect to find all types of goods from the local vendors, the occasional travelling merchant such as Crow, or maybe even a merchant from one of the other wasteland cities, here looking for a good deal or hocking thier goods.

A few of the Locals(Just 3 of the 15 new NPC's within the city. All with a story and a background, and 9 with quests!)

Eddie Freeman - This former BOS Outcast(an 'Outcast Squared' as he calls himself) has set upshop recently within the town selling and repairing armor.

Jeremy Jonas Jones/'3-J' - A runaway from Little Lamplight who has decided he would rather deal with Mungo's then with an 'pestering addicted fizz-head'. Stop on by his stand for a variety of Nuka-Cola Products and inspired Cuisine!

Jayne Romero - Sure, Duvall won't let him trade his wares within the city walls, He understands. 'Rules be Rules'. But that doesn't keep him from selling his stockpile of ammo to the folks that come to town. he even resupplies Duvall's men with their own ammo made from the scavenged shell casings from the night before's Raider attack.

The concept behind this mod is:

-- A large town that exists within the Wasteland, like Paradise Falls or Arefu, one that feels like it's in constant conflict with the harsh world around it.

--To add an additional 9 quests to F3, each with multiple stages and choices of outcome. Complete with character voice-overs!

--Also an additonal 3 minor locations and a new Medium sized Raider base.

--The city will add a new feeling of a persistant world to F3, where as it will be random each day what trader's (besides the Local ones) will show up in town. one day Moira could be in town selling her new book(if you have finished the quest) and the next you may find a Little Lamplight'r looking for a fix of Nuka-Cola.

--Also will be a new player home and the possibility to acquire a Pack Brahmin of your very own.

--3 New factions with changes to some exsting NPC's(Current F3 travelling merchants will become part of the 'Scraptown Merchants' faction) 'Scraptown Merchants', 'Scraptown Guards' and 'Railspike's Raiders'

--The introduction of 2 new travelling merchants.

--New merchant investment possibilities and the opportunity to invest in Scraptown itself and see profitable rewards and city changes!

-- A place with Pre-made generic vendors where people can insert their own items in the GECK to the inventory and distribute this mod with it creating a real marketplace for their items!

And now for my Plea for help.

As you can see from the above, the mod will involve alot of scripting, triggers, Quest-trees, etc etc. After some playing with the GECK there is alot i just don't know. I got Mapping down, it's where i excell i believe, but what i need now are some dedicated, talented individuals to take on the other aspects that need to be worked on. So this is my offical call out for help.

Looking for:

A NPC/Quest Master! - Someone who knows the ins and outs of creating good looking NPC's and the quests thats surround them.

A Scripting God! - there are folks out there(Sadly I'm not one of them) that can look at a line of scripting and understand what it all means. I need one of those folk. The real brains behind a project such as this. They make the whole thing take life.

A Texture Artist Guru - There are a few items i have used within the maps that need new textures added to em. A example is i use the main gate from Little Lamplight and unfortunatly the 'Don't Visit Lamplight Caverns' and 'No Mungos Allowed' texture on it isn't cutting if for this town.

Well there ya have it. My vision. Alot for one man to undertake. So if anyone is interested in undertaking this with me. Please, Please contact me either through PM here or Via email at

[email protected]. Or if you want to see this vision become reality Bump this Post! You never know who will see it and decide to join me in this!

Thank you for your consideration.

Together, we can make the merchants and people of the DC Wastes a place they can call home!

I can review scripts and understand/modify them, but as for writing them myself, no can do.

So if your ever having trouble with a script not doing whats its supposed too, or doing that and something its not, I could help there, PM me if you ever need anything.

Just a fast reply. Spent last night adding to/reworking the Main town. should have some photos updated here come the 1st or 2nd(depends on how much booze is ingested tonight). Getting some good feedback so far, but still looking for someone as 'inspired' on this as i am. Having a wired issue with the GECK and a object... gotta write the message details down next time... Also thinking about changing the Main Town leader/founder (Marvin St.John) to a female, as F3 doesn't have any female city leaders...well besides Red in Big Town, but not sure if she qualifies as a City leader... I will keep yall posted. and thanks for the support.

Sounds like a good project that will get seen through to the end. Looking forward to it.

In the mean time, I'm still learning the GECK but I have programming knowledge and the AI/NPC actions side of things does interest me so I maybe help out there. And while I'm no artist I can probably handle taking those pesky scribbles off your doors and things like that.

Send me a PM or something. :)
