JeremeW5257
Not sure how to explain this, but my game keeps freezing and lagging at random points...mostly in cities. I have to use Cntl Alt Del to get to Desktop. I run Task manager to pull up new window. I tab over to Processes. Where Skyrim is running it shows over 2,000,000 kb in the system. In the past is was around 24,000 or so...when it ran smoother. All other programs are around 10,000 or less. Something is causing it to spike and I can't figure out what it is. Anyone else have/had this problem?
Belial666
Are you using mods,or injectors?Did you change settings in INIs?
coastalfighter
I seem to be getting a similar issue. My game is heavily modded with STEP and TPC "texture pack combiner". This is my first run through with this configuration with the TPC and the latest STEP plus a few other mods not in STEP. I have all the STEP .ini tweaks installed. I have a new game save with no mods set up inside Helgen just after untying the hands since with the mod set up outside I kept getting freezes when trying to stand up at the chopping block and when entering Helgen keep. So I modded the game up at that point of untying the hands. The game will freeze up while going through Helgen's interior at various points. I will have to check on the Task Manager for the exact number it's giving to Skyrim when it's freezing. My thoughts on what the problem might be, which I would think a lot of other people would be talking about so I may be incorrect; I remember reading skyrim can only run or use 3gb of RAM. When I use Task Manager to track my RAM I'm seeing it's right up there at 4GB where the system is using around 1.3GB already. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh I did turn on the log but understanding that log, well I'm not a programmer or a mod auther and it's difficult to have an idea of what it says. JeremeW5257
@belilal666 Yes. I have lots of mods, but I've used them for months without this issue. I'm not using any ENB or Lighting mods except Enhanced Lighting and FX which I've had since it came out. I do modify the INI files, but just to disable shadows and that seems to help a little. It may be something unrelated to Skyrim exclusively, since my computer seems to be running slower than usual, but the only thing I use this computer for us to play modded Skyrim games. I should have more than enough hardware...8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series graphics card.
gsmanners
First of all, freezing and lagging are two totally different issues. Even on a perfect system, you will get freezing (usually about 5 to 10 seconds after you transition to a new cell after fast-travelling). Lagging comes primarily from the interaction between the game and the video system. Shadows put a lot of load on the CPU, but textures, lighting effects, particle effects, and shaders can also put a lot of load on the GPU. To reduce load on the GPU, you can either tune the effects down or lower the screen resolution (or both).
JeremeW5257
I do have most of the high quality textures installed, and trying to do everything I can think of before I reduce them. It's one of the "must have" mods in my opinion...makes the game worth playing. Thanks for the tips though
coastalfighter
Speaking of reducing the texture quality. I went ahead and dropped down to the lower quality textures for the "required" texture mods in the TPC. My Freezing, and it wasn't a temporary freeze it was permanent game crash freeze, stopped. ghavoc
Don't know if this is related - saw an unanswered post from 2011 with the same issue: Don't think my problem is a visual one - I get a lag in conversation, about 10 seconds worth. Accepting quests, opening shopkeeper inventories, that sort. It eventually carries on, but it's frustrating. Anyone know the source/fix? Am running all manner of mods, but I made it to about level 27 of this playthrough with no problems, then suddenly *poof*
