nekineznanec
Requires Skyrim version 1.8.151.0.7 or higher.NOT SUPPORTED ON OLDER VERSIONS!!! or REQUIRED DAWNGUARD These messages greet me on many and more mods.So I'm interested what happened in this last patch and with dawnguard. Did bethesda add some scripts? New code? New creation kit apis? Why do so many mods require the new patch and/or dawnguard? Or is this just so that all people use the same version and modders dont have to ensure backwards compatibility?
NemesisTheWarlock
The game was modified with version 1.8 such that any Mod that has been edited or created since that update requires that the user is using that version also. Any Mod that has not been updated to v1.8 may not work properly anymore, the Mod authors have no choice in this as it seems to be part of the ongoing battle against piracy. The reason it's being posted and highlighted by the authors is that it's one of the most common reasons that users have problems with their Mods.As for the Dawnguard issue, it's because the Mod is designed to be used with the Dawnguard DLC and, again, won't work properly without having the Dawnguard DLC installed.I hope that makes it clear

NemesisTheWarlock
It addresses some stability issues as well apparently, which is why it can cause crashes if you don't have the appropriate content lol, but you're welcome
EnaiSiaion
The only reason not to have the latest patch is if you're a pirate.
NemesisTheWarlock
Or Steam's messed up your game one too many times ;)
RGMage2
The only reason not to have the latest patch is if you're a pirate.Or if your game is running well and you don't want to screw it up by updating it. Or if you have limited download usage available and you don't want to waste a gigabyte updating the game and the Steam client and whatever else steam wants to throw in there. Or if you really hate Steam and can't hold your nose long enough to do the update.
jackowonderful
i doubt the pirates have any problems keeping up with the current game version. i thought the mods edited in the updated ck would crash any not-updated game, that's all. there wasn't any mod breaking stuff in the update. jet4571
The reason mods require the latest update is because there is a version number in the header of the mod, if you use an older mod in an updated game the mod will work fine unless Bethesda changed what the mod did and that will break it. But running a newer mod on an older version will usualy not work at all or not properly even if the mod changes things that has not been updated ever because the version number stops it from fully loading or loading at all. This is a preventive measure so that newer mods will not break an older game by halfway introducing something that was changed in a patch. As for Dawnguard required, that means it uses assets from Dawnguard and Dawnguard.esm is a master file. If you attempt to use the mod and you do not have Dawnguard you will CTD on loading the game. more mods require it because more mods use assets from it.
