trouble getting my texture to work in game.

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting my texture to work in game.

Heres what I've been doing so far:

Step: 1

Open up 'Fallout 3 Archive Utility' program.

and I've extracted a .nif file to:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\meshes\armor\metalarmor\m\oufitm.nif

Step: 2

Then I've opened it up in 'NifSkope' program

and Exported a template of the upperbody and named the file 'myTexture' and saved in:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\textures\armor\metalarmor\m\myTexture

Step: 3

Opened up in photoshop and gaved it some colors and saved it as a .DDS file in:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\textures\armor\metalarmor\m\myTexture.dds

Step: 4

Then back in 'NifSkope' I've open up the same .nif that I extracted before.

Clicked on to the upper body model, and it's highlighted in the Block List window as 'NiTriShape'

I then clicked it's dropdown arrow and selected 'BSShaderTextureSet'

Then in the Block Details window I see 2 existing texture files:

textures\armor\metalarmor\Armor_D.dds

textures\armor\metalarmor\Armor_N.dds

At first I changed the 'Armor_D.dds' bit to 'myTexture.dds' But the model became all white

so I copy and pasted the following:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\textures\armor\metalarmor\m\myTexture.dds

and it worked. I didn't do anything with the 'Armor_N.dds' bit

Save and overwrite the .nif file in:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\meshes\armor\metalarmor\m\oufitm.nif

Step: 5

Opened up the 'GECK'

Went into Object Window, Items>Armor, and the Right click and selected New.

Selected

Equip Type: BodyWear,

Biped Object: UppderBody

Then I Clicked 'Edit' in the Male Biped Model bit.

and 'Edit' again in the next window.

Selected the .nif from: C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\meshes\armor\metalarmor\m\oufitm.nif

Preview perfectly. Saved & exit.

Step: 6

Loaded the Game using 'FOMM' program.

and the model armor still has the same original textue. What am I doing wrong?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Do you have the paths set up in nifskope? (go to render->settings auto-detect should work)

Is your texture the same size as the old one?

If you are going to use the old tex_n.dds you should copy the old one and rename it ( yourtexture_n.dds) and put it with your texture.

Is your fallout.ini set to allow mods?

don't forget in geck, there's a form list Texture Sets, make sure you add your texture there.. just use any existing item there for template, change to a different name, and GECK should create a new form for you.

Hi,

Once I've made my new texture in there,

am I right to go into my armor then click on 'Edit' in the Male Biped Model bit.

and in the next 'Model Data' window I am to apply that new texture set to the 'UpperBody' line section?

I did that in the pass and it gaved me flickering texture on the armor. kinda like random textures/patten switching around.

am I getting close?

i usually choose an existing form as template, (in your case, i'd use the metal armor, make modifications and save the data under a different ID) rather than starting from scratch...

i have yet to make an armor mod, so i'm really not sure what's causing the problem
