MrSymmetry
Hi there. I've recently installed this mod to fix Esbern's voice glitch during 'Cornered Rat' quest in The Ratway, Riften. After I got out of the Ratway with Esbern, I've decided to uninstall the mod, since it was making the game a bit laggy. The author, however, didn't post any information on the unistalling process. Given that, I've just deleted all the files I've pasted previously to my Data folder and that's when the problem showed up.As I ran the game, all the NPC's together with my character went all mute. So I've pasted the mod's files back to where they were placed and ran the game once more. To my disapoinment, the only character who got his voice back was Esbern. Any other character (player included) doesn't say a thing.I've searched through some forums and I've found plenty of similar causes with plenty of divesified solutions, but none has worked for me yet. Here's a list of the solutions I came across and tried with no result:downloading the '.*strings' files to my Skyrim/strings folderinstalling Guard Dialogue Overhaul modinstalling some other Esbern's voice-fixing modsadding 'Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa' to my Skyrim_default.ini fileRegarding the last one I came up with rather odd observation: in MyDocuments/MyGames/Skyrim/Skyrim.ini file there were only these lines: [Display] sD3DDevice="ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series (Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.1) " [Grass] b30GrassVS=1 [Water] bReflectLODObjects=0 bReflectLODLand=0 bReflectSky=1 bReflectLODTrees=0 [General] sLanguage=ENGLISH I remeber I've edited it once to fix green water glitch and there was much more than that for sure. I've paste content of the Skyrim_default.ini into it but it still doesn't work.Anyone have any idea why the .ini file got this shredded-up? And could anyone come up with solution? ripple
'Skyrim_default.ini' -- do not ever touch this file. It's a template file. Revert to your backup original copy of that file (you did make one, right?) or validate local game cache via Steam if you didn't. Instead, delete Skyrim.in and SkyrimPref.ini from '..../MyGames/Skyrim/' and launch the game to generate new ones. See if that fixes your issue. The mod you uninstalled contain only voice files and does not make any edits to default game files. It does not cause performance issues or break NPC voices, so it's something else you did that caused this issue. MrSymmetry
I didn't change the '_default' file, just moved its content to one in MyGames and I'm also pretty sure I didn't change anything in the Skyrim's files besides that one green water issue.Deleted both files as you suggested but it didn't help, just got my settings reset. ripple
Do you still see subtitles when you talk to the NPCs in game? Also try validating the game cache files via Steam if you haven't.
MrSymmetry
Yes, I have the subtitles when I talk to somebody but not when just pass by them. I've found out that some of the .*strings files gone missing somehow but when I downloaded them it didn't solve the problem. I think I'll just reinstall the game making a back-up of my Data folder and other installed mods' files.
