Running with a group of followers

Hello, I got Skyrim when it first came out and beat it and stop playing it for some time up till a few weeks ago. I came across a Youtube video showing some mods. Well it got me going again on the game and I went nuts on DL mods. The last one I found was UFO and I am having a blast running around with a crew of 6. I DL Deadly Dragons too make the dragon fights harder when in this group.

 

ATM I get about 50-75 fps out in the wilds, 30 and lower in towns with random lag spikes anywhere. But the one issue I have is sometimes I lock up. I am not sure if it one of my followers Cerwiden or Vilja that has caused my lost of performance of late or something else. I hope not because they are fun to have around. I am trying to learn to use TES5Edit to clean files but not ready to actually do it yet.

 

My question is what mods would you use out of my list and what ones would you get rid of? Is there better mods that can replace my current ones with no loss of fps but improve game play/life. Is there someone that knows TES5Edit and could look at my log and tell me what my errors are and how to clean them up.

 

I like all these mods and it has breath new life into my Skyrim, but I am still a noob at what to look for in cleaning or what mods to stay away from. Hope I included everything that someone would need to help me out.

 

I do not have any of the DLC's yet, waiting on new job to pay me =p

First off, the words "went nuts downloading mods" always means there will be issues. Ever mod you install increases the chances of problems eventually.

 

It is possible that in the end, you save itself could be corrupted due to installing/uninstalling mods to much.

 

As for your load order, there are a couple of things.

 

1. you need to download wyre bash and make a bash patch to help with your load order.

 

2. I always advise staying away from any quest mods UNLESS you are currently playing that quest.

 

3. For the mods that are not recognized, you need to understand what they add and manually place them. There are guides to help with this, but in the end, it is something you get better at with time.

 

Finally, you won't want to hear this, but we all have done it. You have a ton of mods. You need to trim down that list to only those that are needed. One example that I use is weapon mods. yeah they are great to have, but the chances of you actually using all the weapons is nill and even with a bashed patch, there is very little chance that you will see them on many AI.

 

With a game that heavily modded, there is basically a 0% chance that you will have a game that never freezes. If you can play for over 20 minutes without issues, you will probably have to count yourself lucky that you can go that long.

 

Get use to using TESVEdit and Wyre Bash. Once you use those for a while and learn how your mods conflict, then you can start building back up your load order to a larger state. TESVEdit is one of the most (if not the most) useful tools to use with modding.

I have Vilja loaded in a few of my games and her mod does have a large number of scripts that could strain your system resources, because she is constantly trying to talk to your character or makes a lot of comments. I do not have Cerwiden installed so I have no experience with this particular mod.

 

I run UFO and have found the optimal number of followers should not exceed 4 to 5. More followers uses more resources and the I have seen definite performance hits when I use six or more followers even though I have a Quad core I7 with 32GB ram and a 2GB nVidia video card running in Win 7 64bit.

 

For the best performance, I try to limit myself to 4 followers. There is a utility called BOSS that works well with the Nexus Mod manager to help you determine your load order. I am sure you can find it by doing a search on the Nexus site.

 

Personally, I try to only add one mod at a time and play for a while to see if it has any significant impact on my system performance before making it a permanent addition to my game. I creat a new save file after the mod's installation to test its effects if I do not like how the game performs, I tend to uninstall the mod and reload the savegame that did not use it.

 

These are just a few things that I have tried and have worked for me.
