Fully backup heavily modded skyrim?

So it looks like the SSD skyrim is on is failing. My question is how do I properly back everything up with NMM on my big storage HDD? I'm having steam backup my game data, I have game saves, the nexus mod manger folder, and the entire skyrim folder backed up manually. What do I do when I reinstall it though? I think that if I drag the skyrim folder over into the correct steam directory it'll work, but what about NMM? The mods are still stored in the data folder right? Or do I have to do something else? How do I get NMM to manage my mods again? I also use the texture mod combiner, since I have that saved as a 7Z file and loaded via NMM that should be fine as long as I have the 7Z file backed up too right? Also if worse comes to worse and I have to clean reinstall skyrim and all my mods after that is there an easy way to copy my mod list off of NMM so I can easily remember what all I have? I'll take a screenshot I guess, but anything more efficient would be good. Thanks.

Only thing you should backup are official DLC's, meshes, scripts and texture folders. You can backup the mods you like best, but not everything. You can backup the boss list so you can see all the mods you had installed. If some old mods not present on Nexus you used, I'm sure you find good replacements.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7710-TDLC-0426 follow this and you're done

for NMM just open it and follow

Sweet I'll do that. I've backed everything up all ready so moving steam should be good.

How about you change the settings of NMM to the new location of skyrim?

I guess I'll do that thanks. I didn't realize my mods are still in the skyrim mods folder. I figured since NMM installs and uninstalls them the mods would be in the NMM folder instead.

It's all right. The game still works with all the mods but nmm doesn't recognize them and can't uninstall and install. I eventually reinstalled vanilla and then redid all my mods. I have my mods stored in a separate folder now in my documents, and it seems like uninstalling them all, backing that skyrim folder up, then reinstalling all the mods stored separately works well. There's probably an easier way but that's how I've done it.

Hmmm. Seems there's no foolproof way to backup mods, but thanks all the same. :P

NECRO but I figured it might be useful to someone in posterity ..

If you use NMM just do this: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Backing_up_your_mod_list_and_load_order but obviously include all the content from your install. SKSE, top level dirs and FXXAA injector stuff etc if you use it.

I made a ~12gig (compressed from 32 using insane dictionary/word settings) backup of my entire install including the core data files using 7zip, password protected and encrypted the contents, split it into 1gig chunks and uploaded it to a free (private) google drive account (15gig each). If you have a low spec machine just skip the core game files - you can install those from steam or cd or w/e. I am lazy and wanted a 1 click solution as reinstalling Skyrim is such a nightmare if you have a lot of mods.

I can now download and install my 200+ modded Skyrim on to any PC capable of handling it (GTX560, 2500k, 8GB RAM) anytime .. forever. Its in the cloud and Google storage is basically immortal. Just install NMM, follow the above instructions (plus copy accross all your extra tld files and stuff), tweak your gfx card settings on the local machine, play! If you were really in to it you could just make a custom installer but I don't mind spending a few mins moving folders and files tbh.

Mods will go out of date before long but once you have a stable Skyrim that you are happy with its a good way to ensure you can always at least scratch the itch when you need to.
