Miles Tails Prower
I've been on a quest to become thane of all 9 holds. My next stop has left me in Winterhold. I went and invested in the store, helped Ranmir pay of his debts and reunited him with his late love.. I also stole the staff for the Jarl's Steward and did 2 favor quests for the members of the Collage. All in all, I've helped 6 people. I've made my way to the Jarl to start the Quest to retrieve the Helm of Winterhold, however there is no option to ask the Jarl for work. The only mods I am using are the unofficial patches... If I use the console to set my relationship rank to 2 with the Jarl, I immediately get the option of becoming Thane if I help the people of Winterhold.. it is entirely possible to skip this quest and become thane this way. The quest updates as normal, showing I have helped the people; however, I would like to return the helm of Winterhold anyway. I used the console to try and setstage, but there is no clear way to get the quest to even appear without first triggering it, and yes.. I have disabled the unofficial patches and tried again. Upon checking my relationship with the Jarl using console commands it is always set to 0. It is my understanding that doing favors for the people of a hold is supposed to increase your relationship with the Jarl, but mine isn't; however, I don't think this has anything to do with the quest because the quest does not have any disposition requirements on it. Any help would be appreciated. I need to see this through. Edited February 28, 2013 by Miles Tails Prower
Kaine12
I have the same problem! I've finished the companion quest line up to purity dunno if that's the problem or if it's cause I've joined the Imperials. Is there anyway to get it to work?! Miles Tails Prower
I've tried everything. You can still become thane by changing the Jarl's reputation to 2 with the console, but you can't do the Helm of Winterhold. I asked Arthmoor to help me figure out a fix, but he brushed me off. I've looked through the CK, changed the quest to start enabled, tried using the console to setstages.. Nothing works.. Miles Tails Prower
Arthmoor suggested I make a thread and get as many people's issues listed as I could. if anyone has this issue with the quest, please let me know so that I can show it to Arthmoor and ask that he look into it by making a bug report. Thanks everyone!
ripple
I don't have anything helpful to add. But I just completed that quest. Received the quest after stealing the staff for the Melur. I get the feeling some bugs are save game related. I never had issues with returning Dravin's bow in 'Bow to the Master', for example, but some people did, and required the USKP fix. On the other hand, I've experienced a bug in a previous playthrough where Belethor would suddenly stop trading. His inventory would become permanently 'blank' even after repeated cell reset, and I could not sell anything to him even though he has gold. Only a handful of people have experienced this (there is even a 'work-around' mod for this bug on the Nexus), but I've never never experienced it since and have never been able to reproduce it. Miles Tails Prower
Even so, I wonder why it would even be that way? Skyrim is an odd game, indeed. On one game I was able to invest in Angeline's Aromas and on two different games I wasn't... However, this is the first time I've ran into a problem I couldn't fix with the console or the CK. ripple
I spent a long time trying to track down the cause of the Belethor bug in the CK and TES5Edit, making sure it wasn't something caused by another mod (I had no mods in my load order that edited him or any of his dialogue conditions, his merchant container, the cell for his shop, his faction, absolutely nothing that touched him in any way), made sure the merchant container was properly referenced in the CK, went through his dialogue branch, etc. After a few days of pouring through every possibly related record I could think of, I just gave up. The only thing I didn't check were scripts. This bug was really annoying to me because Belethor is the only general goods trader in Whiterun. If you haven't, you can try checking in TES5Edit to see if any mods in your load order may have made any sort of edits to the Jarl, his dialogue, the quest, or anything possibly related, just to eliminated the possibility that this may be caused by a mod. Miles Tails Prower
The unofficial skyrim patch altered Jarl Korir in 1.3.0. Since then, I have not been able to do the quest. Arthmoor isn't responding, and without anymore reported issues by other users, I can't submit a bug report.
ripple
I don't see any edits to Korir in the USKP plugin, but there is a fix for the 'Helm of Winterhold' quest. Apparently one of the possible locations of the helm overlaps with a Companions quest and could cause the helm to not appear. The fix shouldn't prevent the dialogue option for obtaining the quest from appearing (Favor158QuestTopic: "You're the Jarl? I'm looking for work."), but you can try and strip out the USKP fix and see if you can obtain the quest then. It's under 'Quest', look for "Favor158: 'Dungeon Delving (Jarl - Caves)." I don't think it'll do anything (primarily because the fix is working fine in my game), but what else can you try at this point? (Just remember to back up the USKP plugin before editing). darkness947
I'm having the same problem, and I have the unofficial skyrim patch, although I'm not sure it's causing the problem. For now, I've decided to skip the quest.
