Wet and cold, cloaks and immersive armors

Hey all :)

I have a few questions who maybe someone who is more knowledgable than me could answer. I like to always be on the safe side before I start a new game with a lot of mods I haven't used before.

First question is if the "cloaks - player only" and "wicCRAFT" esps work with wet and cold or do I have to use the esps which use the levelled lists to make the npcs use the cloaks as a part of rain and cold gear?

Second is if I want to use the normal versions of cloaks and wic (with the compability patch), will it work with immersive armors? Since they both add stuff with levelled list. It says immersive armor is compatible with everything, but I just want to make sure.

And the third is that if I use the player only versions of cloaks and wic, can I safely swap to the standard version on a current save game without any issues?

Thanks in advance! :)

I'm using these three mods as well, so I'll take a stab at those questions:

  1. Make sure you only ever have one of the WIC ESP's active - NMM may activate them all, so double-check. I think in some previous version of W&C you had to use the player-only version of WIC, but the current version states, "If any of the main plugins are installed, fur cloaks will be equipped by NPCs as part of Cold Gear."
  2. Any time you've got two mod's changing the same leveled lists, you'll unfortunately need a merge. My advice is to learn to make these yourself, since mod authors won't always release them, or they may be out of date. Plus you may have three mods touching the same LL, and then you have no choice but to make your own merge. Wrye Bash is the tool most people recommend for this job, but I use Tes5Edit myself because I prefer the hands-on drive-it-like-a-stick approach. Neither is that hard to learn, there are lots of tutorials out there.
  3. I'll have to speculate on this one, but my hunch is that this may not be safe, depending on circumstances - which NPC's currently have cloaks, or which cloaks you currently have, cloaks that have been loaded into non-respawning containers, that kind of thing. Best case scenario you'd have just a little more bloat in your save... worst case you get CTD's. :\

Wrye Bash will handle the conflicting leveled list edits (and very well at that). Depending on how many 'give more items to NPC' type mods you use, manually merging the leveled lists might be just far too time consuming. However, outfit records need to be merged through TES5Edit, as Wrye Bash won't touch them. WiC and CoS has a manually made compatibility patch that merges the conflicting outfit records, which you should use if using both mods. You will still need to use Wrye Bash to generate a Bashed Patch for the conflicting leveled lists. So basically, if you are using Wrye Bash + compatibility patch for WiC and CoS, you have no need of any of the optional 'player only' or 'no imperial' type plugins (unless you really want to punish NPCs by depriving them of cloaks...).

If you 'swap' plugins in the middle of a game, the changes will not take place until a cell reset (when the NPCs respawn with their new gears, or lack of them).
