Can't Leave Markarth

Hello all,

 

Whenever I visit Markarth, if I try to fast travel away or leave via the main gate, the new cell never loads. I get an infinite loading screen. I haven't had any crashing or problems elsewhere in the game, it is only when I try to leave Markarth. I can travel TO Markarth with no issues, and move around freely within the city and its various cells.

 

I CAN "coc" away, but only to internal cells, and when I try to leave those cells, I get the infinity load again unless I save, qqq, and reload. I thought it was simply because the area around Markarth is quite large and graphically complex, but if I were to, say, fast travel to a location outside Markarth, I don't have any problems. It is only when leaving Markarth. No other city has this problem.

 

I'm not entirely sure what is going on. It isn't game breaking by any means, just an annoyance.

I usually read about people getting the infinite loading screen when entering a city (typically because they are using a lot of high res texture packs + mods that add more AI's to be rendered in cities + continually running scripts--basically too much stuff for the engine to handle at once) rather than when trying to leave. Sounds like a very weird issue.

 

Post your BOSS log (with the messages) and maybe we'll spot something. Include the list of plugins not recognized by BOSS if one is generated (enclose them in spoiler tags so they don't clutter the screen). List any texture replacer type mods that don't come with esp's/esm's that you can remember. Also, have you edited the game ini files at all?

I truly do not think this is mod related, although I'm sure there are some mod issues you might see in my load order. The reason I say that is because I do not have any mods that modify Markarth directly other than adding a home fast travel marker, and usually when I have mod troubles my game crashes like crazy. I can play for eight hours at a stretch with no crashes or slow downs the above problem exempted. It is quite strange indeed. Just for reference, here are my system specs as well:

AMD Phenom II X6 (6-core) 1100T 3.30GHz processor

16 GB DDR3 RAM

AMD Radeon 5740 1GB vRAM

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

 

As you can see, my specs are obviously not the issue.

Can you just copy/paste the log into a spoiler tag, instead of an attachment? You GPU may not be powerful enough to handle all the texture packs. I've noticed that modded Skyrim is particularly stressful on GPUs. One of the common causes of 'infinite loading screen' during cell transition (or even loading a save game made in the worldspace) has been too many hi-res (re)texture mods. Not sure if that is the cause in your case, but just so you know.

Of course, my apologies. Thank you for your help.

 

I just don't think my specs are the problem. Two of my processor cores are also dedicated to handling graphics. If graphics were the problem, why wouldn't I have problems leaving any other city, or leaving internal cells in the Markarth region? Wouldn't I experience slowdowns in the Markarth area? None of that is happening.

Have you tried COC from the main menu to markarth and then attempting to fast travel from there? I've had infinite loading screens due to possibly bugged save files before.

Time to start testing, I guess. My problem started when I went to Marcath for the first time via the "A Night to Remember" quest. I didn't start having the problem with leaving until "The Forsworn Conspiracy" quest started. My boyfriend did not do "A Night to Remember," but did do "The Forsworn Conspiracy." There may or may not be a connection, I'll be testing.

 

P.S. I use no texture mods besides SMIM. What you see is what you've got for my mods. I agree with AH1, the problem does not seem mod related to me. I also doubt that it is a hardware problem, as this behavior doesn't happen anywhere else for my boyfriend or I, or, it seems, the OP.

1) You still haven't answered my question about the ini files. Some ini settings (particularly some suggested by those online 'in tweak guides') intended to improve 'performance' can cause game instability.

2) Cleaning: download TES5Edit from that link and clean the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits.' You'll need to remove identical to master entries and undelete/disable deleted references. Won't break your game even if it does not resolve the infinite loading issue.

3) Do some experimenting with Skyrim HD texture mod disabled. Sometimes I have problems loading up a save game I made in the worldspace or a city (but usually I don't, even though the mods I used were exactly the same). This is an issue that has been reported with various modded Skyrim setups but no one has quite put a finger on 'why', other than the fact that having many texture mods, mods with running scripts, mods that add more NPC (and AI's to render), will collectively produce these sorts of issues. Keep in mind that Skyrim's gamebryo 'Creation Engine' is aging poorly. It took several patches just to enable LAA, and it will use only 2 CPU cores at best (and poorly at that). However powerful your rig may be, sometimes the engine just can't handle it.

Well, I'm not the OP, but I'll give my piece.

 

1) I have bFloat enabled and the typical shadow tweaks for an ENB to run in my .ini, and the Z-fighting tweaks detailed here: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Z-Fighting.

 

2) Done and done, I cleaned my mods long before this problem started happening.

 

3) I don't think this is the problem, as I have only one texture running, and that is SMIM. (Which isn't really a texture at all, I suppose) I suppose running the official high-res texture pack counts, but really, it should be able to handle that.

 

This is similar, I think, to people's inability to leave Solstheim, which is happening in my boyfriend's game as well. I'm about to run the game vanilla and see if the problem still occurs, be back soon.

 

EDIT: I'm back. I ran in and out of Markarth with zero mods (and god was it scary). The game DID NOT freeze. Therefore, I have to conclude that this is mod related. Time to test!

Uh...Sugars, can you please start your own support thread? It's generally considered 'bad form' to post one's own issues and logs in another user's troubleshooting thread. I know it seems that your issue maybe be related to the OP's (and I am sure the OP appreciates any suggestions you may have), but it could also be something entirely different, and the suggestions intended for one load order, ini settings, or hardware composition, ends up getting confused with suggestions for another. It's like those 'can't absorb dragon soul' threads where there are literally 4 or 5 different causes but they all get jumbled up into one confusing thread, if you see what I am saying.

If and when you start your own thread, it would be really helpful if you can post your BOSS log (with the messages) instead of the load order, and a list of plugins not recognized by BOSS (enclose them all in spoiler tags like you did with your load order here).
