Defender's Quest DX mod installation

Hello,

 

I'm playing Defender's Quest : Valley of the Forgotten - Deluxe Edition (both v2.2.0 & v2.2.6) and I wanted to add a mod to it.

It's New Items Deluxe 2.18b and in the comments there it purportedly works on those versions.

However, when I try to install it using the in-game function, it gets stuck in "installing mod".

The files are created directly in "C:\Users\#####\Documents\LevelUpLabs\DefendersQuest\mods\" but it's not working either way.

I tried opening it with Admin rights & Windows XP & Windows 8 compatibility mode. It did nothing.

Help please?
