Next big upgrade choice SSD or ?

Recommended Posts

I am ready to make another upgrade to my rig and I been thinking an SSD for all my games is the way to go. I just put in a GTX 680 4g and I love it but the load time is a touch slower with all the textures I run in Syrim. Here are my specs , what do you think the next upgrade should be ?

Nice rig you have there, i would indeed go with a ssd, you can get one fairly cheap these days. Although your monitor looks like it can be a bottleneck lol.

Anything over 250gb is recommended

what exactly is your budget??

What do you mean by the monitor ? Huge budget, I've retired early so I'm doin OK. I can spent 400 a month on my pc if needed. I am trying to do it all myself rather than go buy a monster so I can learn.

Good to know on the monitor, I'll get on that right away. Is that SSD big enough to hold all my Steam games (around 40 ) and a few more that are not on Steam ? Should I have a drive just for Skyrim ?

Depends on how much data you have, if you want future proof though there is 512gb ssd's at a reduced price now, they are coming down in price  .

Cool, is it best to have one big one like that or several mids for different jobs. Sorry if its a dumb question I'm still learning.

And thanks for taking time to advise. I appreciate it.

Your welcome

One thing i suggest one with HDMI instead of dvi, better quality in general, but many do debate there is no difference except hdmi carries audio.

There is no difference. Not only are both digital, so they either work or not; they both use the same signaling and are electrically compatible. Simply two different sockets for the same content.

If you have the cash to spare, 512 GB SSD won't be a waste. Otherwise 256 GB is fine too.

I would recommend a large display for gaming. Rule of thumb being to measure your space for it and get one as large as is going to fit, as long as diagonal size isn't larger than the distance between you and the screen.

If you have the space and the cash, good LED TVs today are simply built better and offer better image quality than most any PC monitor. They are limited to 1080p, though. Most enthusiasts I know agree that 37"-40" is optimum; some like 32" better, but there are 30" monitors. Going to a TV is a big leap, of course, so it's just something to think about.
