Manually installing Breeze's FO3 Males?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've been attempting to install Breeze's FO3 Males on my Fallout 3 game manually, as I'm using the NMM. I've tried transferring all my current mods to FOMM to install it, but the end result was that my game would just crash on start up regardless of what mods or how many mods I had, so I ended up switching back to NMM.

Basically, I dropped the extracted folder and its relevant files into my Fallout 3 Data folder after renaming the files so that there'd be only one upperbodymale.nif, added the Armor Fixes, activated the ESPs, toggled ArchiveInvalidation on and off and started the game. The game runs perfectly fine, but I noticed that once I started getting to looting - say, the raiders - when I removed the armor they were reverted to wearing their singlet and underwear, along with what looks like a black pair of "leggings" and a black patch on their wrist. Also, the armor didn't activate, even after I ticked the ESP in NMM after dropping these files into the Data folder.

Is there something that I've done wrong or missed in the manual installation process? Or is it just that Breeze's simply cannot be installed via NMM or by this method?

Thanks in advance!

Nekoneta - Hello!

I don't use NMM but many FOMM packs will work fine with NMM, so it's worth trying to see if Breeze works with it. That way you'd get the installer sorting your files if it does work with NMM.

I thought the Breeze package worked with NMM but as I said, I don't use NMM so can't say for sure.

If not, this:

"but I noticed that once I started getting to looting - say, the raiders -
when I removed the armor they were reverted to wearing their singlet
and underwear, along with what looks like a black pair of "leggings" and
a black patch on their wrist."

Sounds like a texture issue, since you've mentioned toggling archive invalidation off & on (the most common fix for such iassues) it's probably a problem with placing of your manually installed textures.

Make sure you placed the Raider textures into your:

Fallout 3\Data\Textures\characters\raider

There's also Breeze textures for Ghoul & Male & DLC Pitt mutants, maitain their folder structure as seen in the Breeze package.

Note that the Male textures have a few optional files that have been renamed to describe them (eg: Hairy).

You can either pick the defaults or choose & rename one of the optionals, you just must have three files from that:

upperbodymale.dds

upperbodymale_n.dds

upperbodymale_sk.dds

If it's only some Raiders affected & you use MMM, make sure you placed the Breeze MMM Raider textures into your:

Fallout 3\Data\Textures\MMMF3\characters\raider

Hope this helps!

Hello Prensa!

Just tested out installing with NMM, and it came back with an error of some sort, which was sort of expected. I'll go test out the manual placements again, and see if there's any improvement.

Regarding the three files, do I need to remove all the "extra" optionals, or do I just keep them in the folder?

Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated!

Nekoneta - Hello!

"Just tested out installing with NMM, and it came back with an error of some sort"

Ah, must have stopped working with later versions of NMM.

I know the Type 3 female replacer needed an installer specially for "Old" FOMM & one for "New" FOMM & NMM.

The manual install will work just as well.

"Regarding the three files, do I need to remove all the "extra" optionals, or do I just keep them in the folder?"

You can leave the optional textures in the Male folder, as long as they have that extra description on them they won't interfere & you'll know where they are if you want to try one of the other options at some point.

Just as long as you end up with:

upperbodymale.dds

upperbodymale_n.dds

upperbodymale_sk.dds

If you leave them alone & install as is, the default ones are already named like that.

If you're using the archive invalidation in NMM, don't forget to turn it off & back on again AFTER installing Breeze so the textures show up.

Hello Prensa!

Well, after re-installing the mod and making sure that I have the three files stated, the raiders still persist with their texture problem. I think maybe Breeze's won't work without FOMM any more or so... I'll try and give it another go, but if not I might just go look for another body replacer or until it's updated so that everything fits well.

Thanks for all your help! I do wish this worked out, but until then I might stop and just let it be for now.

Nekoneta - Hello!

" I think maybe Breeze's won't work without FOMM any more"

It will definitely work without a mod manager, that's how us oldies used to do it. :)

"the raiders still persist with their texture problem."

You did make sure that the 3 Breeze Raider textures:

upperbodymale.dds

upperbodymale_n.dds

upperbodymale_sk.dds

ended up in your:

Fallout 3\Data\Textures\characters\raider

To be clear, these are in addition to the files you place in the Male folder mentioned earlier not instead of.

The Male folder ones are normal NPC's & the Player, the Raider one is for Raider males.

If you have MMM the make sure that the Breeze MMM Raider textures end up in your:

Fallout 3\Data\Textures\MMMF3\characters\raider

They will overwrite the original MMM ones in there (so backup the originals in case you want ot swap back quickly).

There's also a texture folder for Ghouls & Pitt Mutants.

Ah, just spotted something.....

"after renaming the files so that there'd be only one upperbodymale.nif,"

You renamed one of the options to upperbodymale.nif?

It should be:

upperbody.nif

Loose the male part (ouch, that sounded bad), only the female upperbody is named so (femaleupperbody.nif) that would have meant the game was ignoring your mesh & trying to use Breeze textures on the default body causing your issues.

Sorry I did not spot that sooner.

Hello!

I can't believe it. That fixed it! Right now I'm feeling like such an idiot for not seeing that sooner, and now everything loads properly. That'll teach me to give up so quickly... And, well, uhm, that was a bit of an awkward turn of phrase... but that'd explain why the textures were showing up wrong.

Thank you so very much!

I felt the same, I should have spotted it sooner. :)

To be fair to us both, upperbodymale sounds perfectly reasonable.

"And, well, uhm, that was a bit of an awkward turn of phrase.."

He, he. I spotted it as soon as I typed that. :D

Glad to have helped!
