I have been playing skyrim for a long time. the highest i got with just skyrim was lvl 53.

On here (the savegames download section) people have lvl 70-80 (and some 65) by just playing skyrim, and i wondered how they got there, what do i do wrong?

The first time I played, I ran around like I was still playing LFD2 and I finished all the main stuff by level 40.

These days I tend to get to around 80-90 before I get bored--and often don't even complete everything by then.

But really, the level you get to doesn't "mean" all that much. It's not like you get a prize or people let you get first in line at the store.

Here are my observations:

The more crap you do, the higher your levels go. So more mining, crafting, walking instead of fast travel, etc.

Unless you use something like Skyre to increase your enemy's levels, the game gets really boring really fast on higher levels, as you one-hit dragons (yawn.)

Personally I love SkyRe, and if you are looking both to increase the level you get to eventually, and increase the challaenge in getting there, you may find that to be your cup of tea, as well.

Of course, there are people who use console or other "cheats" to raise their levels, but since it is a game that you are only playing for your personal enjoyment, I have never seen the point of that. My advice: find what works best for your in your own game, and don't worry about comparing it to anyone else.

Well, when I'm not using the console to overcharge the dragon-crap out of a character, or using the Oghma Infinium exploit, I never really make it past level 20ish. I finish fights as quickly as possible, I almost never block (I'm a real berserker type), and I generally don't bother with magic or stealth skills. The fact that Bethesda made ALL skills count towards level is both a blessing and a curse. It opens up an entire new range of playstyles, but at the same time, for those of us who know our niche and have settled into it, it's hard to step outside of your comfort zone.

My personal solution was to roleplay it out. Go through the main quest as a blood-bathing psychopath, then settle down, start a family in one of the hold capitals, then do some everyday-type stuff - enroll in the College of Winterhold, take up alchemy as a hobby, or maybe turn to the shadows as a way of providing for one's family.

If all else fails, there's always a bounty letter waiting at an inn.
