House Mod WIP

What would everyone like to see in a FO3 house mod? I've started making one. It's got a bomber background that is lore friendly to boot. The only reason my Assassin's Refuge mod for TES4 was successful was because I got a huge amount of feedback and suggestions from the community. So, what does the Megaton/Tenpenny Tower place lack? Or, all existing aspects aside, what would you like to see in a FO3 player home? The current design will be a vault, just to help guide any feedback. I really appreciate anything anyone has to say.

There are a lot of house mods out and more come out every day. It seems like everyone who starts modding starts there (especially as the official tutorials cover the "house mod" creation aspect nicely).

If you're not dedicated to making a house mod, maybe you can focus your talent in another direction? Have you considered putting your experience to use in another way? There are many team mods out there that need help, for instance. The Wasteland Expansion project and Project Valhalla, to name a couple.

However, if you do have your heart set on a house mod I'm not faulting you for it. Everyone should do what they want to with their own time. In fact, my suggestions kinda of make me a hypocrite because I'd rather work on my own stuff than join a mod team... hmm. So that just goes to show you what my suggestion is worth: stinky poo.

So, I'll throw some of my ideas in here for you:

1] Clean, walkable space. A lot of house mods are rather cluttered and I always find myself clipping into things and bumping random trinkets off a table or desk.

2] Easily identified storage units. Perhaps make some custom textures for this: Weapons, Armor, Clothing, etc labels on lockers or boxes.

3] Utilize vertical space. Why make a room unbelievably large when you can create a basement and 2nd floor?

4] Some greenery. Grass, shrubbery, maybe some scaled-down trees as bonzai trees or something. And water too. This stuff is nice for just relaxing and makes the place feel like a real home.

5] A working radio / radios / jukebox that I can turn on (even if it's just GNR and Enclave). In fact, if you're so inclined, you could integrate my Ipip Player mod into a jukebox so that people can listen to their very own music in the comfort of their home. That might be stretching it /shrug

6] A "real fake" window. You know, just copy some of the external landscape (or just plaster a screenshot on a wall outside the window?) and box it into a fake window so that it appears that I'm looking outside when I look through the window. I've done it before with maps and I think it looks neat.

7] Lights that can be turned on and off. Like mood lighting so that the player can dim the lights. Just a neat touch.

Ok enough of my rambling on. Good luck and happy modding!

Yeah, I know that for the vast majority of modders, a "house" is a simple and easy entrance into the modding world. However, I'm fairly confident that I can create a place that I like and tends to stand out from the horde of other places. I'll leave that up to everyone else to decide though. I like all those suggestions. Thanks. As it progresses I might get in touch with you about incorporating the IPip mod...

In other news, does anyone know if it's possible to stop a body of water from emitting radiation when the PC jumps into it?

Rooms to store companion junk (ie weapons and armour you don't plan to wear youself) with beds for the Companions to "sleep" in (all House mods I've seen so far have one bedroom with one bed - it's like they expect you to sleep in the same bed as Charon or Fawkes!)...
