How to get GPU/CPU values as on screen display in Skyrim?

As above. I use EGVAPrecision for GPU monitoring and CoreTemp for CPU montoring. I am able to get the GPU temperature and CPU temperature and CPU load values to the tray and to my G19 display, but I want GPU and CPU values as OSD while playing Skyrim, at best with a hotkey assigned to turn them on and off. I need the values for CPU temperature and load, and GPU temperature and VRAM use as OSD:

As far as I fiddled around yet, I guess I need another third party programm to get the OSD to work.

Anybody knows a good one and maybe a short instruction where I have to look in the menus there?

Thx, for the answer. Found it myself already. This tool is awesome in combination with MSI Afterburner. No need anymore for CPUTemp, GPU-Z, HW-Monitor, CPUID-Z. I just cleaned up my desktop and my tray.

You get a full examination tool for CPU and GPU and in combination with the RivaPlugin of MSI Afterburner you are able to display on screen and in tray.

Whoever might be interested how to adjsut the settings, a real good guide is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/655138-how-monitoring-cpu-gpu-temperatures-game-benchmark-screen-display.html

I did all the same like in this guide and in addition I watched a YouTube guide. It won't work. It's set to shared memory, all my settings got their line and column 1 and I imported HWINFO into a MSI Afterburner Profile. It works well for my G19 LCD though.

I have Windows 7 64 Bit and the newest HWInfo64 version 4.12-1850.

Just start MSI with server, start HWINFO32 or 64 depending on OS,and thenpress the Sensors button in bar,and when that window opens, sset the ones you want, and press minimize all. After, you wil always have to open and choose sensors and minimize all, every time you start app up Edited by Belial666

My problem is different. I know how to set the values, but I found out that there are problems with certain FXAA/SMAA injectors and I use RCRNv36.

One fix should be to check the box for D3D runtime libraries in the Riva server settings. Another option is to set EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=1 in your profile .config in the MSI Afterburner folders, which is essentially the same as checking/unchecking the box for D3D libraries.

Ok, I already thought it wouldn't be such easy. I did everything according this guide and and always checked the box for D3D libraries. I have shared memory checked in the HWInfo64 tool. I launched Skyrim via SKSE (or chose SKSE.exe over RCRNv36) and just when the intro should start I am hung in an neverending black screen.

I used the global profile and I created more profiles in the Riva tool of MSI Afterburner for HWInfo64.exe, TESV.exe, SKSE.exe, steam.exe, tried different settings with detection lvl, viewport, framebuffer, shadows on/off, Vector 2D, 3D, Raster 3D.

I even tried it with FXAA on/off in the RCRNv36 injector tool...always black screen.

I tried it with Diablo and it worked flawlessly there. Using OSD for Diablo told me, that I do not need any other profile, the global should be sufficient. HWInfo64 will automatically send its settings to the Riva tool, if set to shared memory, and they will show up as OSD in game.

The only difference is checking/unchecking the box for D3D libraries. While the OSD in Diablo works with or without this box checked, Skyrim will launch flawlessly if unchecked, but without any OSD, and will hang in the black SKSE loader screen if checked.

I got it to work by another method, but it has disadvantages.

-Close MSI Afterburner before you start Skyrim via launcher (Don't minimize to tray only, close it completely).
-Start Skyrim via launcher until you watch the main game menu.
-ALT+Tab out of Skyrim and start MSI Afterburner + Rivatuner tool (D3D libraries box checked for all profiles or at least global) ->
-> tada, OSD shows up

Disadvantages: I still found no method to tab back out of Skyrim to my browser or even to desktop (playing full screen, maybe windowed mode would work). ALT + Tab won't work, Windows key won't work, ALT + CTRL + DEL won't work, you can't even opt out by calling the task manager.

So the problem is definitely either a SKSE or a TESV.exe problem. Not sure if the black screen issue still remains to the SKSE load sequence or the TESV.exe start sequence.

PS: I did some more research and started all my profiles (Global, SKSE, HWInfo64, MSI Afterburner, steam) which could interfere with OSD with the box checked for compatibilty for D3D libraries, with exception of TESV.exe. Skyrim launched normaly via SKSE, no black screen, but no OSD too. So it's definitely a TESV.exe issue. It does not like that check.

If anybody has a real solution, feel free to post here. So far I will do my tests with the above workaround.

  • 3 months later...

I can get it to show if I disable all directx9 hooks in the skyrim folder such as scriptdragon, hiagloboost, enb but if any of them are enabled it doesn't work. Its a shame cause i'm running on a laptop and hiagloboost really helps but i need to know if its over heating when it crashes.
