Spec

core i7 920 @ 4ghz

DDR3 memory 6gb

Geforce GTX 480

When i look in certain area's my framerate drops from 60fps to 40 fps.

I have alot texture packs such as nmc texture pack full and full bump maps. I would of though my geforce 480 could handle that.

I have alot clutter texture packs also and weapon texture packs.

Not sure if i should buy another graphics card, i get maxium gpu usage on this single card.

I heard SSD can fix framerate drops.

dmxdex2020 - Hello!

Even with vanilla textures, certain areas can be seen to cause slow downs for many. Rivet city is a particular hot spot.

It's most likely the texture packs they are real FPS killers & a large collection of them combined with an already resource hungry game like Fallot 3 will tax even the most intense machine.

Sounds like you grabbed the top of the range NMC pack, even the mod maker suggests one of the less intense packs.

NMC has provided several versions for less impact but simillar quality, try one of those insted.

Also take note of he's advice on using:

Large Address Aware Enabler

It's discussed at the bottom of NMC's Description page, it could help with letting your Fallout 3 use some of that extra memory you have.

It's a good option even for those who don't use texture packs but have a large amount of memory.

Also, defrag after installing NMC as those textures can really get spread about on a cluttered drive & that will have a surprising impact.

Hope this helps!

dmxdex2020 - Hello!

"Wouldnt adding another gpu or ssd help?"

As far as I'm aware (I'm no expert) a solid state drive will only improve your loading times of meshes & textures from them (assuming you install your game on there). While this can prevent some backlog stuttering as the files are loaded, it's still going to be down to your graphics card to handle the heavy lifting.

You say you drop from 60fps to 40fps? That dosen't sound bad to me, I know some people would love to have that. :)

If it really feels laggy I'd still say your best option is to take a step down on the NMC texture pack as it sounds like you got the top end one.

NMC even recommends the lighter packs as they have less impact with little drop in quality.

Hi-res textures are one of the biggest drains on your resources, both loading times & your graphics card.

A step down in these may be all you need, certainly save you a lot of money. :)

"I have also made my game large address aware, i use CFF explorer."

That'll help, it should give Fallout more memory to play with.

Hope this helps!
