AlduinWorldEater
I'm running Skyrim on an ASUS laptop with integrated video chip. I want to run an ENB of some sort with it...but I'm wondering if I should even try, given the performance problems I've been having. I really doubt there's an ENB that actually makes the game run smoother...haha. But yeah, what do y'all think? Give it a shot? Or just leave it alone til I can get a better machine? billyro
I would personally avoid it. Even though my Skyrim runs pretty much perfect, an ENB reduced it to dust. I reckon they're mainly used for screenshots now anyway.
ginnyfizz
I would avoid it too. I have a beast of a system, but choose not to run an ENB. Not necessary when you can use a combo of RCRN, Enhanced Lights and FX, Imaginator and nice texture packs. But with a lesser system, an ENB would be really asking for trouble. AlduinWorldEater
That's kinda what I thought, but I figured I'd pass it by the forum here and see what folks had to say just to be safe. I don't really know much about ENBs, so yeah. Thanks for your input!
Shubal
Unless you are a professional screen shot maker it isn't necessary.
nathanj
I have tried lots of them and I keep coming back to simply using Realistic Lighting with Customization and some texture packs. They seem to focus on one area for example interiors and they do indeed make them really nice but then they are completely borked in another area like the snow and ground outside being super bright. I am to lazy to switch the ENB on and off depending on my location so I finally gave up on them.
jiffyadvent
Not really, it will just some tweaking and time before you get a combined preference of optimal visuals. 1.) First I'd go for high resolution texture packs 2.) Performance = HiAlgo, other perf enhancing dlls there are a lot on the nexus 3.) Mesh improvement mods/packs 4.) INI tweaking 5.) ENBs, any ENB would drain up to 15 fps, and performance ENBs about 2-5fps but those ENBs that need more processing can be tweaked an configure to turn of certain options like using ENB customizer. That's my general path in order of priority to get visuals. When I'm using ENBs I disable AA and antiisotropic filtering and everything is just set to medium except texture quality and shadows and I get a 3-5 max fps drop with ENBs enabled. There were alot of tweaks I did before I got my a good balance between visuals and performance that I wanted. Also there are helpful mods there like DYNAVISION which is more performance friendly then vanilla's DOF and other ENBs that use DOF, I never use DOF from other mods or vanilla's DOF I just disable them and use DYNAVISION = more performance. I'd need to tweak my existing setup to give me the maximum possible FPS before even trying high-res textures. It's just that I don't know how to...I dunno what .ini adjustments I can make, and all the optimisation mods/utilities I've seen so far have given me a headache
Relativelybest
My laptop can basically only run Skyrim on the lowest performance settings. I tried using and ENB once and it went hilariously poorly - I basically got so much lag the game was unplayable, and literally everything I tried to make it work just made it worse. captainhalfajob
I'm running Skyrim on an ASUS laptop with integrated video chip. Only use ENB if you have a £150+ CPU and a £250+ GPU. Edited March 5, 2013 by del_boy
