Dubnoman Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I'd like to use light armor for the head, chest, hands, and feet, but then use a heavy shield. Will that work out okay? The armor perks only apply to armor you wear, right? Also, will the heavy shield accumulate exp for the heavy armor skill tree when it is used?
fortie Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 No shield will only increase block and only when you actually block with it
Relativelybest Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Not only does blocking with a shield not increase armor xp, but blocking with a shield actually makes your armor skills develop slower since you only gain armor xp by taking hits. I'm actually not sure if the armor perks include shields - they shouldn't considering the above paragraph, but the wikis are fuzzy on the subject and I always use mismatched armor so I wouldn't know.
rizon72 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 When I was using a shield with my last character, blocking only seemed to go up when I actively used it, otherwise it went to my armor. But to answer the question, shields are neither heavy or light armors, but a seperate class of armor.
jackowonderful Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 as far as i know some armour perks will also affect your shield if it's the same type, but no perks stop working because of your shield. the only negative of heavy shields is if you try and sneak with them equipped.
