Fairly Consistent outdoor freezing...common causes?

I'd appreciate if anyone could give me some well known causes of outdoor freezing. I'm getting it fairly regularly nowadays.

 

Outdoors in towns or indoors seems to be relatively crash free.

 

I'm running about 65 mods, level 45 for this character.

 

I replayed an earlier save that did not have certain mods installed and had deactivated them, but the result was the same.

 

I know I have some dirty edits according to BOSS.

 

Anyway a "top list of things to check/change/" would be appreciated.

 

This is my first modded game ever so I'm learning as I go.

1) Cleaning: download TES5Edit from that link, follow the instructions on the page, and clean the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing "dirty edits." You will need to remove identical to master entries as well as undelete/disable deleted refrences.

 

2) Conflicts: This is unrelated to your freeze issue, but since you are using a number of 'give more items to NPCs' mods (e.g. cloaks of skyrim, winter is coming, immersive armor, immersive weapons, Jaysus Swords NPC distribution plugin, etc.), you should download Wrye Bash and generate a Bashed Patch to merge the conflicting leveled lists so the items from all those mods will spawn correctly on NPCs.

 

3) A combination of factors could be contributing to the 'outdoor' instability you've experienced. Often times, mods that add more spawns and spawn points to the worldspace are the major culprits (something like 'Immersive Patrols' for example. You also have some ERSO plugins that adds more NPCs and AI packages in the worldspace, but they look to be inactive and disabled at the moment). It could be that your system spec isn't able to handle all that is required for the mods you are using ('Climates. .. ' scripts run periodicallly when your character is outdoors). Certain ini tweaks, like tweaks to ugridstoload, usually made to increase game performance, can also be be costly to game stability. By 'freezes', do you mean 'micro freezes' and game stuttering or freezes that requires you to close and restart the game?

I will learn how to use TES5Edit and see if this helps.

 

My system is decent (ASUS Pro board, MSI GTX 460 Hawk card, 8 gb Ram, 1 gb Vram. However I shut down all ERSO as I thought it might be too much for my system, but it didn't seem to help.

 

I should also mention I have been playing around with my nvidia card settings after reading "Skyrim tweeks" and similar articles.

 

Is there a nvidia setting U might recommend?, or others use with good results?

I don't have an nvidia card (anymore) so I can't advise you on how you can tweak the nvidia settings (I generally leave my GPU settings at stock unless I need the performance boost). By 'game ini' files, I was referring to Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPref.ini. I generally advise that those files not be fiddled with other than to add non-performance related tweaks like to enable papyrus loggnig (when bug tracking) or to increase autosaves count. Most of the tweaks recommended by the popular 'ini tweak guides' found on the interwebs aim to increase performance at the expense of game stability (e.g. increasing ugridstoload). Unless the user is running Skyrim on a low end machine and need memory tweaks just to sustain playable framerates, i recommend sticking with the stock ini settings.

 

You didn't answer my question about what kind of 'freezes' you were experiencing.

Oh sorry bout not answering your inquiry.

 

It is commonly a "game freeze-have to reboot the game type" ,as in "Skyrim not responding". Occasionally I get "stuttering" in the worldspace.

 

I don't tweak any ini. files, as I'm not comfortable doing that yet. I figure I can break the game without going there. :happy:

 

I was speaking of more common tweaks like draw distances, anisotropic filtering, antialiasing etc. on my vid card.
