(basically) New to Oblivion - Question about mod packs.

Hello all. I've played Oblivion in the past on and off. My wife bought the GOTY Edition. It seemed pretty cool, but I wasn't terribly happy about a few things. I recently have been on a kick to research games I've left behind to see if new user-generated content (ie., mods) have been made for them to improve them and I was pleasantly surprised. Particularly since I am also enjoying one of the next big games for it; Fallout 3. Anyways, the database of mods is enormous. I've searched about and noted some big name mods (or modders), but finding them is tough. I know that some very important mods are feasibly low on the "Downloads" stat since everybody gets it and passes it around, etc. Some mods that are too far in the past to be high on the ratings list, etc. Anyways, does anyone have advice on the definitive textures mod, body mod, etc? Perhaps a pack of what most would consider the core set to get me started?

for a body mod I'd recommend exnems as a basis. Then add the Hgec upgrade.D cup is the most widely used and modded for. Also madcats fighter body ic compatable with it. Theres alot of cosmetic mods( don't use a bunch, you won't like the problems over cosmeticing causes). Roberts male body IV is the most widely used male body, but V is in the works.

Growlf has a nice Fem body if you like then pointing towards heaven.....

OBMM will allow you to auto install mods, check for conflicts and adjust load order easily.

MMM adds 160 new enemy types without changing game play like OOO does, but its a personal preference.

Thanks for the quick update! I am just getting into the first town, etc. I kinda download something and try it, then quit out and look for another mod. This way I can appreciate the hard work and improvements and make sure each goes in smoothly. So far I have the OBMM utility along with VA's upgraded coins, Qarl's texture pack 3 and Darnified UI 132. I believe I have found the roberts male body and martigen monster mod 355b. Those are terribly complicated and confusing whilst reading through the notes. Lots of add-ons for the add-on that make it tough to sort through the files list for the right base mod package.

I take it these are the correct ones?:

I'm not into the whole nude female body thing too much since my wife may very well log into the game to try out the mods I mentioned since the last time she played. :whistling: She finished the main game in vanilla mode and hasn't tried the expansions or any mods.

OK, I have the following stuff now:

Qarl's texture pack

OOO

MMM

Shorter Grass

+5 Attributes

Book Jackets

Enhanced Weather

Deadly Reflex

Realistic Fatigue and Health

Darnified UI

Everything works great except for the leather/hide crafting in MMM and some stuttering which I will get to. I am downloading Better Cities and getting it ready to go right now.

While playing, I was a bit confused as to what point there was moving up from iron arrows to steel or silver that I have so far. They are all rated at the same damage. Likewise, the bows are as well, IIRC. What's the deal? Do some punch through armor better? Fly faster? I heard silver will damage things that are usually only hurt by ethereal damage (magic)...

You might like to try Natural Environments rather than Enhanced Weather, or at least compare & contrast. I personally prefer NE's weather patterns.

As regards iron, steel and silver, I've always assumed that steel weapons don't wear as quickly as iron (even though they do similar damage) and so don't need repairing as often. This is open to confirmation however. Silver weapons will hurt spooks (and/or maybe vampires), unlike ferrous ones.

If your character's a packrat kind of guy you might like the Bag of Holding mod, which allows collecting unlimited stuff with no weight penalty. Some players do consider this to be a cheat -- I prefer to think of it as magic :)

I though I had a problem with the leather and hide crafting also, but I think i am starting to realize you can only use certain types of it... Like for instance I have rabbit pelts, wolf pelts etc... but none of them will do anything when i click on them, yet I have a different kind of hide call a rawhide something or other and i can make leather out of it... So maybe you havent found the right type of hide or maybe yet it is a problem with the plugin :-)

I know with the arrow making mod you can directly click the tool to pull up the crafting menu. Is it not the same with the leathermaking shears or whatever the name of that tool is? Maybe that's how I'm fouling it up.

Likewise, do you have to load MMM.esp and MMM for OOO.esp or are they different versions of the same file?

I read somewhere that the higher grade arrows ignore an ever greater percentage of the target's armor as well... I'm surprised no one has cracked the combat algorithm for precise variables, etc. I was extremely impressed to find some info in the "in-game" books as well.

Already had it downloaded. I'll give that one a go right now. :-)

I like the `eshmes better bodies and clothes' mod. It includes a well-stocked shop full of clothes. If you use companions (and a couple of pretty, battle-ready girls with you makes travelling those lonely roads a much-improved experience) then this is highly useful.
