[LE] How to fix black ENB rain/snow problem

Recommended Posts

This topic was difficult to solve for me but I wanted to share the solution I found for future modders looking for help:

Issue: Skyrim "Heavy" Snowfall (Console Code = 0004D7FB "SkyrimOvercastSnow") displays as black snowflakes at all times of day in game

Setup: Rudy ENB with NLVA for weather

Solution: Modify INI as follows:

Skyrim.INI

[Display]
bDeactivateAOOnSnow=0
bEnableSnowRimLighting=0

Skyrimprefs.INI

[Display]
bToggleSparkles=0
bEnableImprovedSnow=0
bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1

Notes:

  • My INI files did not contain any of these settings already so I had to add them in
  • Console has two additional codes for snow: Light (00104AB4 – SkuldafnCloudy) and Blizzard (000C8221 – SkyrimStormSnow)
  • My light and blizzard snow conditions looked perfectly normal without the above INI settings
  • The "heavy" snow condition caught me by surprise as broken since I had only seen light and blizzard conditions
  • Here is the source for this recommendation: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/9pc0x7/snow_too_bright_at_night_and_different_coloured/
  • I dropped a note of thanks to the redditor that posted the solution

May the Divines bless your modlist. Cheers!
