An aggravating issue concerning the game freezing up

I have oblivion and have been playing on my pc for some time now... and every since I have had it I have had this problem with or without mods . when starting the game if I do not exit from the Bethesda screen before it hits the next screen the game freezes up and I have to turnoff my computer manually, I cant even ctr+alt+delete out of it...

however if at the Bethesda loading screen i click esc it goes straight to the game and it plays fine after that...

While it doesn't prevent me from playing the game it does become a nuisance... Whats the diagnosis doc?

I recently had a problem almost exactly like yours, except I couldn't get into the main title screen at all. The problem for me was a few nasty mods causing a whole lot of trouble, it could be that it's the same problem for you. First before you start up Oblivion, go into options and check windowed mode so you can easily exit out if the problem does occur. What I had to do was manually check all of my mods, which is a lot, and see which ones worked and which didn't. It seems that a couple of the mods were causing the problem and I had to delete them from my data folder (just the .esps) then it was fixed. Hope this helps you

I can guarantee that its not mod related :-) it happens in vanilla oblivion also, the windowed mode is a good idea , I guess i should learn to utulize the in game options more :-) Thanks
