Toastrider
Alright, so I upgraded my video card to a sleek, sexy Nvidia GeForce 9600GT. VERY nice. BioShock? Runs without a hiccup. Fallout 3? Eh... not so much. It seems to have some minor problems and one BIG problem. The minor problem is occasional 'lagging' in game play. Very rarely when moving, occasionally when I activate VATS. Very, very jarring. The major problem, though, is the crashes to desktop. I'd upgraded the drivers for the 9600 to 180.48, and on two different occasions not only did the game crash randomly, but it took the display with it (as in, I had to reboot). After hitting the Bethesda forum, I swapped out the 180.48 driver for a newer one (181.00) that was a little more stable (presumably). Okay, now it's not killing my display but I'm still getting the occasional CTD, usually when I try to bring up the Pip-Boy. Because you will ask, I'm running a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor, 2.75 gigs of RAM, Windows XP SP3 (32 bit). My power supply is 650W, so I'm fairly certain the card isn't running short on juice. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall F3 to see if that helps. I've played it through once, but I really like the game. Just... the crashiness is starting to annoy me. :) If that doesn't work, I might roll the drivers back to the factory shipped CD and see if that doesn't fix my problem :) Wish me luck. EDIT: For the record, I had the Better Power Armor mod, Galogen (better Pip-Boy light) and Increased Skill Points mod as well. EDIT THE SECOND: Okay, update. I reinstalled F3, patched up to the current, and played. Haven't had any crashes yet (knock on wood) but I'm still getting lag when I hit the VATS key. In fact, at one point it hung so badly I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to see if the program was nonresponsive; that seemed to break the cycle though. F3 /definitely/ needs some further patches. TzToppDogg
Maybe you should try to turn the graphics down, especially the view distances. Or else you could try to patch it. I also had major issues with fallout 3 before, as many others. You could also try to se the overall graphics to default.

That's not the point man, I got Assassin's Creed and I play at full settings without any crash, and I have to say that Assassin's Creed is one of the most demanding game in terms of graphics, so Fallout 3 should works fine too at full settings. I got the ASUS Nvidia 9500GT MAGIC (overclocked) and ALL (and when I say, ALL I mean ALL) the games run nice, the only that gives me problems is Fallout 3, (kicks to desktop and also the grafichs card, having to reboot the computer) Is very known so far this problem, and the only solution that I found is to play windowed
ZIoKo
To dig this out, i also experienced some problems with the very latest nvidia drivers, version 181.20 (certified). When ingame, some crashes occured in the wasteland cell, when traveling or even just turning my characters head around 180°. Now im totally crash-free, funny thing is, im using the 181 BETA drivers for my 8800GTX.
deliverance6
@ starter its not you're graphics card causing this problem. i have exactally the same playing on a ATI Radeon x1300 its more than likely a sound card problem or sound drivers. i fixed mine by downloading a few codec packs and playing with the AC3 filters. not a great fix but it worked on my front
Drewgamer
VATS seems to kinda glitchy here as well...i know its not a very appealing fix but i turned down my AA and turned off "Depth of Field" fixed my VATS slowdown issues. Hope you get it sorted out. EDIT: with the 181.20 Forceware drivers turning "Water AA" to low fixed "some" crashes i had as well (even when im not near water, ) and the water still looks plenty good
