Warte
Sorry for bothering you, but i´ve met a bug in the "Lost to the Ages" Dawnguard sidequest, and i´ve been looking for a solution unsuccessfully, so i thought to inquire directly in the forum. Well, bug is the next: I have taken three Aetherium shards perfectly (Arkngthamz, Raldbthar and Mzulft) and i went for the last one, in Deep Folk Crossing, which marker wasn´t active, but, anyway, a piece was there (Katria wasn´t there, neither). I thought she would appear taking the shard, but, for my surprise, it was a glowing crystal shard, nor an Aetherium shard so í´ve been stuck in the mission because it doesn´t work properly. Hope you can help to fix, and sorry for my english.
Warte
Sorry for second post, but i forget to say that I took the quest by reading "War of Aetherium" in the Dawnguard castle.

Cadum
For me it was the Raldbthar shard that was identified as Glowing glass shard instead of Aetherium shard and as such never counted for the quest, and it didn't work to activate the entrance to the forge either.I fixed my problem by typing setstage DLC1LD_Misc 30, this set my total number correctly to 3 even if I had 2 Aetherium shard + 1 Glowing glass shard, then when recovering the last Aetherium shard the count was correct 4/4 and Katria said to look for the forge, the forge wasn't pointed on the map but Katria's journal says it (location 5), after getting there Katria said to put the shards on the device but the device was saying that I had nothing that could fit ( my Glowing glass shard didn't work)... anyways to move on from this point I had to set the stage with the console, setstage DLC1LD 160, then setstage DLC1LD 170, then setstage DLC1LD 180 and finally setstage DLC1LD 185. At this point the lever should be up but it was underground so I had to use the code TCL to go underground and activate it, once this was done everything went as it should.I'v lost a lot of time reloading previous saved games but the shard in Raldbthar was always labeled Glowing glass shard instead of Aetherium shard, for me it was impossible to finish this quest without using the codes. In your case you probably need to setstage DLC1LD_Misc 20 (if not try 30, 40 or 50 till you get 4/4 shards), you'll never get it but then you can setstage DLC1LD 160 and find the entrance to the forge (south of Ivarsteed) hopefully Katria will be there and you can proceed like I did, type the code then go see Katria, if nothing new type the next code. Woudangst
I'm having the very same problem. The same shard also has the glowing crystal shard name. I've tried the console commands like you said but after setstage 185 i can't even find the lever underground. It's like, the tunnel is there, the plateu just isn't and thus, no friggin lever. The tower doesn't rise, even though it would complete the standing clear stage. And the machine never ever accepts that one piece named differently. Katria also fails to show up as well, even after manual progression AND waiting for hours (in the game obviously) for her. Console commanding her to me also didn't work (says doesn't reconize the base id, but i have doubled checked "xx004d0c") She just doesn't show. It's seems this quest can only be fixed by giving the right name to that very piece. I would have done it myself if i even had the slightest knowledge on how. But it sounds to me it would only require an esp fix that alters the name so the machine would reconize it. Any idea's?
Cadum
Try revisiting every location where the shards are, I remember that at the "Deep Folk Crossing" Katria didn't appear the first time I got there but show up on the second time. She was at the forge waiting so it's possible that you need her in order for the leaver to show up. Is your shard count 4 or not ? there is a mistake on my previous post it's setstage DLC1LD_Misc 20 , 30, 40, 50 to change the shard count and not just setstage DLC1LD. BTW on UESP the stages are 160, 170, 176, 181, 190 they are different from what I wrote on my previous post and I can't verify it anymore, I think I was trying the codes by increments of 1 so it's possible it worked for me at different number than what is written on the UESP page.I don't know if you know but the first 2 x on "xx004d0c" are actually different numbers or letters that differ from person to person, for me Katria is "02004d0c", you can type help Katria and it will show you her ID after NPC_.Good luck with it, I remember it took me some time to get it done and with out the codes it would be impossible. Woudangst
Hah, this is something i can work with, and no, i didn't know that about the code. I'm gonna give these options a shot and see what happens. To clarify, yes, i have 4 pieces in my inventory but the count has stopped at 3. I can set the count right with console commands, but it still leaves you with one missnamed object (which is obviously is not seen as a quest object because i can remove it from my inventory). I'm gonna pen this info down and see what happens in my game. Thank you very much for replying btw, i was afraid this was going to be ignored since it doesn't seem to be a common problem. [edit] I'm curious, if i had katria's code wrong (because the one you gave me did work)then i also probably have the wrong code for the item. See i have also tried adding the item to my inventory through cc but it didn't accept the code. The code i tried are here http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Aetherium_Shard. [edit] can't seem to get the count right either, but that because of the glowing shard Edited July 25, 2013 by Woudangst
Cadum
You can type help shard or help aetherium and you will get the right codes, for me the xx are 02, i don't think it will help cause the glowing crytal shards and aetherium shards have the same id, so you will get the same thing you already have. For the total count to go up did you try setstage DLC1LD_Misc 20 , 30, 40, 50 ? this will force the counter to go up regardless of what you have. Woudangst
Sadly, the "misc" codes didn't do anything. I assume it's like this "setstage dlc1ld_misc #". I think i should still try conjuring it up through cc by using help and the correct codes, just so i can scratch it off the list. Other than that, this quest is fubar. Even when i place katria through cc during various stages at the forge she doesn't talk, and just stands there. All is simply reliant to that one piece. When i progressed to i think stage 160 it should tell me to talk to Katria. She was still one of the previous dungeons so i followed the marker, yet to only find the marker. Katria wasn't there, just the marker hanging like a plumbbob from the sims. Anyway, i don't have time for troubleshooting right now. Thanks again for the suggestions, appreciated! Woudangst
Okay so my suspicions have been proven incorrect. Yesterday night i decided to change the name to the object myself using ck. Surprisingly easy if you ask me (when you finally get the ck to load the dawnguard resources) but it didn't work. I tried removing the item and add it to my inventory, nothing and the code was correct this time which i noted down from the ck. Then i also noticed while fiddling that even though i can just remove the item from my inventory in game, in ck it is checked to act like a quest item. I have looked for inconsistencies by comparing the parameters of the other shards but everything seems identical, plus there's just a lot of info in there that i cannot comprehend. And the weird thing is that in ck all four of them are called "glowing crystal shard". So my next though i to simply make an esp that tells the dwemer mechanism it just needs 3 pieces, but i have no clue how to do that. [edit] Or raise the lever using ck? Is that possible even?
