System Restore

Recommended Posts

Hello is there a way to access system restore with out the start menu, i was hit with a witch i like to call the new years eve virus. Man it was one nasty worm witch wiped out the installshield and a few more major parts of the operating system, sucks eh.

I may need to use the restore disk, last resort.

Im using Windows XP 64 Bit Pro.

You can access it from the control panel somewhere I think - possibly from the System screen? If you cant get at that or the start menu then you're kinda screwed... and tbh, if it got rid of any other bit of the OS, it will have got rid of system restore too. Its not hard, and its the most obvious bit of windows for a virus to target :P

If you need to access system restore again by yourself, go to the start menu, click on it and when the menu appears, go to "run" and click on that. Now a window with a line for writing will appear. Type "msconfig" on this line and run it. A new window appears called "System configuration utility". Go to the bottom of the current window and click on "Launch System Restore". You'll have a final window appear with two options to either "restore the comp to an earlier date", or create a "restore point", which will allow you to restore your comp to that specific time with current installations and such. If you want to simply restore, click on "restore to earlier date", select the date you want to restore the computer back to, and click next again. Make sure at this point all running programs are closed. Then click next one last time and your computer will restore.

i suggest that you turn off system restore, as some viruses embed themselves in its files and cannot be deleted by antivirus programs.

My friend wiped my drive and reinstalled everything just fine.

If you need a good disk defragmenter i suggest Auslogics Disk Defrag, it takes me with a 750gb hard drive less then 30 minutes to defrag my drive. And it is completely free.

I made a shortcut to system restore so just incase this happens again and it wont because i bought kaspersky, witch in my opinion is the ultimate antivirus.

I found a even better disk defragmenter, here take a look.

Name- Advanced System care

uniqueness-It auto defrags for you when in Idle, when your not using it, its completelyfree, some features may not be fully available for you until you buy it, but the auto defrag is included in the free version.
