How to alter 1 object in 2 mods without conflict

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new at modding with the G.E.C.K., and I have a question that I just can't figure out.

Let's say I make a mod that just changes the firing speed of the laser rifle.

Then I make another mod that just changes the in-game name of that laser rifle.

Whenever I do this, the esp I load last wins out, and I don't get the effects of the other mod, even though the two mods are altering different properties of the weapon.

This seems like a basic procedure that one would use to, e.g. create a patch that fixes an error in a mod they had previously made. There must be a way to do this without making a third esp that incorporates both changes, right?

Can anyone help me out? It's much appreciated...

Use FO3Edit. Click and drag the values around. If one says AER9 Laser Rifle and the other just says Laser Rifle, click AER9 Laser Rifle and drag it over Laser Rifle. Say yes if it asks if you want to be sure. Do the same for the firing speed. Conflicting records will be marked in red so you'll know where to look.
